Yuck.
Buy the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712, or spring for the ASX. The ASTs look like they suck, and I HATED the 711s, which these look like an even cheaper version of.

Put them on a Honda or Toyota that isn't designed to handle anyway if you like.

The 712 is a horrible tire (if you hated the 711, the 712 sucks too) and the ASX isn't going to be any better. They're asymetrical pattern and hard compound isn't anything to brag about.
As for looks, IMO the ASX is no ricier than the 712. At least they have sipes for all season traction.

The AST is a 400 tread wear with only A ratings compared to the ASX w/ 420 AA A. I wouldn't expect much from the tire. Probably hard and will last a while though.

Re: Kumho ESCTA AST

i put the asx up front and they handle alot better then the 711's i had. i cant wait to burn up the rest of the 711s on the back so i can see how much better the asx hooks in the back

I hate my 712s. I cant catch traction even from a roll, and I am certainly not very modified. I read so much about them how they are so wonderful, I am glad they came with the car cause I would be pissed if I had paid for them.

Tires ???

Im in the market for tires like you. I have 2000 Z28 with 17 inch rims. Ive been reading the postings but still havent made up my mind. I would like a quiet tire for freeway driving and good handling. $ of under $140 per tire and used for summer driving only.

For $10/tire more you can slip into the Falken RT615.

I have had 2 different sets of 275/40ZR17 Khumo Ecsta Supra's, and here's my opinion;

They are a great tire for the money. They will last a long time, even if you beat the snot out of them. They do well in the rain, and have a very stiff sidewall for cornering. Traction definatly could be better, but thats the sacrifice in having a long lasting inexpensive tire.

i have 275/40-18 kumho ecsta asx tires and they are great tires. they look really good and perform well. i get really good traction in dry or wet weather. and they are all season. and there is no road noise. i think they were rated #5 amoung this size tire. i love them. i payed $580 mounted and balanced for them

I hate the two AST's I just bought. The side walls are flimsy and make my rear end feel like it's floating away from me when I corner.
