Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
Anyone have any experience with them? They're very well reviewed for everything I've seen, I got a decent deal on them too. They'll have to be better than the 3 near bald BFG G-Force T/A's and 1 completely bald random BFG tire I have on the car right now. I'm looking forward to driving the car with new tires since It's really needed them since the day I bought it.
Re: Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
I actually had a rude awakening today. I went into the tire shop to see if they had arrived, and was told they were on backorder and would most likely take 6 months to come in. I thought that was pretty insane, but I've done business with that tire store and graduated with the manager there, so I took his word on it and decided to go with G-force T/A KDW's. Blah. At least they're cheaper.
Re: Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
I just bought some a couple weeks ago through Discount Tire and they were here in a Week...285-40-17's...I got them for $206 per tire plus $11 mount and balance..so it was like $950 all said and done...They are by far the best tire I've ever put on my car

Re: Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
Well, I love the F1s that came with the 2000 Camaro SS, I bought a month or so ago. But I learned the hard way how expensive they are.
Here's the long story, I was headed back east on Interstate 90 in Ohio at about 2am, just after I picked up the car in Detroit. When I ran some object over that caused a blow out the front passenger side tire and caused a huge bubble to form on the sidewall on the right rear tire.
So I had to get towed to some small town where the wrecker driver knew a Goodyear dealer was. That morning they had to send a shop boy an hour away to Toledo to pick up two new F1s. The car was done by 2pm, and with the new tires, and a synthetic oil change I decided to have them do just because the bill was just shy of $700 bucks. This included the nearly 2 hours labor for the trip to pick the tires up.
I can't say enough about the tires themselves, I love them, best I've ever had on any of my vehicles, but that bill sure hurt. I never pay retail for anything, but I had no choice in this case and it killed me. So much for trying to save money on shipping by picking the car up myself. But now I have two new tire I guess.
But in the long run It was still a good price on the SS, and it SOOO much better then the 96 LT1 M6 I had a few years ago.

Re: Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
Another great experience here with the GS-D3s!! I have the 275s up front with the massive 315s in the back. Can't say ANYTHING bad about these tires, and thats including the price. In reality you pay for what you get so putting on some cheap $100 tires is not going to give you the best experience in the world. For the performance these gave me, they are worth every single penny. Like what BradcTA said, you really have to think twice about being hard on these tires with how much they are. When I first got the tires, I wasn't to thrilled with the tread pattern as I usually prefer the "block" treads, but they quickly grew on me. The sidewall is also pretty sharp looking.

Re: Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
Is it me or did you gets get them installed the wrong way? Look at RedRyder's car photo and then the picture of them not installed. Wouldn't the car photo of them funnel the water towards the center of the tire?
Re: Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
I don't think so, with the grooves as he has them as they roll forward, the grooves spread wider, taking the water with them and pushing out to either side of the tire, so it isn't under the tire trying to hydroplane them.
So yeah, as you a half right, the inside half of the groves do push water toward the center of the car, but the mission of the grooves is to make sure water isn't building up undernieth the tire, so they push water to both sides.
I'm totally sure but the tires that are uni-directional as well as side specifc are designed to push the majorityof the water to the outside, that is why the center grove tha joins the opposing angled grovesis positioned well to the inside of the tire , so most of the groves are angled outward.
But I'm only going by memory from few times Ive seen those types of tires, so I could have it totally backwards. But I do know the F1s do push water to both side, and if they were mounted backward, they would be pushing water toward the center of the tire, which would obviously be very dangerous.

Re: Just ordered some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
Well guys, I had to draw the lines on a piece of paper and rotate it. Turns out you were right about the direction. I think it's shady advertising. They look fantastic in the front view (the way every picture of them is taken) but backwards when viewed from the back.
It's even more expensive when you buy the SS car brand new. You pay for the Z28 wheels and stock sized tires (which don't come with the car) and then you pay again for SS wheels and larger tires. There was no credit for deleting the base wheels/tires.
