Tirerack says to go with 275/40-17. What do you guys think?

 

Go with the 18's IMO

 

I already purchased 17".

 

Most manufacturers will not recommend a wheel narrower than 9" for a 275/40-17. Dunlop is the exception at 8.5" minimum. Problem with 8" wide wheels is that you either have to "squeeze" a 275 on it, or stay with a sort of narrow 245/45-17. That's why most people opt for 9" or 9.5" wide wheels.

 

Those are some heavy wheels!
Like Fred said, 245 is about right for an 8 inch wide wheel.
