Help with wheel selection.
Help with wheel selection.
Want to run Nitto 555r's on the street and track.
Obviously the bigger the rim the worse for the track, so whats my best compromise? I can't afford a set of rims for DRs and another for street use, so they have to be dual purpose for now. I was thinkin some 17x11 ZR1 replicas with 315/35-17s would be good no? Seems to be popular.
Eventually I will get a set, at least for the rear, for true DRs or slicks for track use only. Once I do that, street tires will be mounted on the ZR1s instead of runnin DRs full time, and I'll have a real set of drag wheels/tires to swap come track day. But for now, I want wheels to look good on the street yet still give better performance obviously.
If I go with this setup it will be Nitto 555s(note: NOT 'r') 275/40-17s up front I think. Not sure on the math for the sidewall height, but I think its less than the rear so it won't look like the fronts are taller, and they are actually the same height as the rears.
Long winded I know, but thats a lot of money and I want to be sure it will work well and look decent too. So any suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom

275/40-17 and 315/35-17 have the same diameter within 2/100ths of an inch. And if the diameter is the same, the sidewall height is the same. I run 315/35-17 BFG drag radials on the street, and they provide decent traction. Can't spray on the street with them, though. Never tried them on the track - I have 28" ET Drags for that.
Sweet. Up here in Washington, so kinda worry a lil bout the rain. But from what I've heard the Nitto's aren't bad in wet conditions as long as your not heavy on the gas. Obviously in dry weather traction will be much better than 245 street tires. Which is good, cuz its way too easy to roast em right now. Just hoping the Nitto's are a decent step-up on the track. I kno they won't be slicks, but should be quite a bit better than street tires even with driving them on them all the time.
So, any modification needed to fit tires that wide in the back on ZR1s?
Thanks for the info!
