Help with possible wheel repair!!

I noticed a vibration that I eventually identified as a wheel vibration. If you get up to 80 mph it shakes so bad that you don't want to be in the car. Tried to balance the tires and I've been told that the wheel has problems. I have not had the wheel off the tire to inspect but I did look at them when they arrived in the boxes and I didn't see any visible warpage or hard hits. Does anyone know any sources for wheel repair?

These are the Chrome factory Camaro SS wheels off a 2000 Camaro SS that I put on my 1996 Z-28. If repair is not an option, what is my best bet for picking up just one of these wheels? These are 17x8 wheels. Thanks.

Wow, 5 days and no reply. I did swap the rear tires out on the rear wheels to make sure it was a wheel problem and not a tire problem. The wheel in question doesn't look warped but it definitely has problems and you can see it when you spin it on a machine.

Anyway just to make this a productive thread, here is a source for wheel repair in the Atlanta, GA area if anyone else ever needs the service. A friend of mine had a couple of Boyd Coddington wheels repaired by these folks and they did a great job and the cost wasn't an arm and a leg. Company is Wheel Wizard Wheel Repair. You can see them at wheelwizard.com.

The gentleman off these boards I bought these from also informed me that I could get a new wheel if need be, from SLP for around $300. Let's hope I don't have to go that route.

Before you bolted those wheels on your 96 Z, did you make sure there was no interference between the outside diameter of the rear axle hubs and the inside diameter of the hub holes in the wheels? That is a common problem when putting "newer" wheels on a 96 or older F-Body.

PS: Factory 4th Gen SS wheels are 17 x 9.0"

With information obtained from this message board I was able to find out about this problem ahead of time. I went ahead and took care of all 4 wheels with a light sanding disk before installation of the wheels. I would never have known about without doing my research here first. Thanks for the very informative help guys. The stickys at the top of each forum are a big help.

To answer the other question, there was only one wheel causing a problem. The problem was noticeable at lower speeds but was completely unbearable at 75-80 mph.

I would check the wheel with a dial indicator, if you have access to one. That will tell you if the wheel is bent or is not concentric with the axle.

yeah run-out can cause that, but also it could be a bent hub or axle which will also show up checking for run-out

to be honest i am having a hard time understanding exactly what your problem is, and what you have done so far to rectify it, and thats prolly why you have not gotten many responses
