Help?!?
Help?!?
I need just bought a new set of z06 wheels. They are 18" rims and 9.5" wide. I got 305/45/18 nittos on them and they will not fit on the car. The tires rub on the rear fender towards the back of the car. The car is a 94z. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can fix this problem. Or another thing is would a "35" tall tire fit? Anything would help Thanks Mike
Wrong forum.... I'll move it to "Wheels and Tires".
A 305/45-18 tire is 28.8" diameter. I'm surprised you can even fit it into the wheel opening, at least based on my experience with 28" slicks. Hopefully you're running 4.11's or higher to make up for the excessive diameter. I had to cut the leading edge of the rubber bumper cover back about 1.5" to clear the 28" slicks.
A 305/35-18 would 26.4" diameter, still a bit larger than stock (25.65"), but at least it would fit in the wheel openings, and not screw up your effective rear axle ratio so much.
If they are rubbing on theinside fender liners, part of it is probably due to the excessive diameter, which is pushing the tire 1.6" higher into the fender. The rest of it may be due to the offset of the wheels. Do you know what it is? A 9.5" wide wheel will generally not have problems with the tires rubbing as long as the offset is in the range of 45-55mm. But without knowing the offset of your wheels, its hard to figure the "fix".
There were no factory 18x9.5" C5 Z06 wheels, so you must have "repro" wheels. Someof those are 61mm offset, which is a bit too much, but would not be a problem if you weren't trying to fit such oversize tires on the car.
Was there a reason you picked the 305/45-18?
