Have ~$600, need help selecting tires....

I got some money finally and NEED tires bad. I've been looking around and can't decide what to get. I really want to steer clear of the cheap one's (<$100) but am very reluctant to drop $158 a piece for Goodyear GS-D3's.

I'd like to have good feel on the highway with decent treadwear (I'm tired of buying tires every year!) Grip is important, but not the first thing on my list.

Thanks for any help.
Kyle

PS - I know Chris at Discount on here helps people out. What kind of deals does he have?

My bad. I'm looking for 245/50/16's for my 16" '97-'99 5-stars. Again, nothin fancy.

Never did I mean that under $100 was cheap and not good enough, it's just that I've had quite a few of those brands before and MOST (<-keyword) have just worn down and gotten hard within a year or year and a half and I'd really just rather throw down a few more bucks for a GOOD set.

Thanks,
Kyle

Go to the Tire Rack website. Search on "tires by size". That will give you 36 different 245/50-16's to choose from, ranging in price from $60 - $196. Just keep in mind that shipping, mounting and balancing will add to your cost, unless you can get a local dealer to match the Tire Rack price. Also, don't forget about asking our supporting advertiser about his prices, and any specials. He's one of the people that make these forums possible.

Pick the tires that interest you on the Tire Rack site, and click the box in the left hand side next to the listing. Then click "compare tires" and you will get a table listing how each of those tires stacks up on dry traction, wet traction, cornering, tread life, noise, ride comfort, etc. Keep in mind that the comparisons are based on survey feedback from the "average" buyer, so don't take them as "absolute".... but they are a decent guideline.

You need to decide on the type of tire you want. Being in TX, I doubt you need a "mud and snow" rating, and that's what the "S" in the BFG KDWS stands for. For a few dollars more, you could get the BFG KDW and have a tire that's rated a little higher on handling, wet and dry traction and tread wear.

Thanks a LOT for the info.

I have gotten in touch with Chris from Discount Tire Direct and we are in the process of discussing which I would like to buy, most likely from him.

Thanks again,
Kyle

Oh, and yeah, snow isn't much of a problem for me!
