Re: Falkens??

I put a pair of 451s on my car after talking with the Discount Tire dude that posts here. I am very impressed with the wet and dry grip of the tire, and it's also stayed quiet as it's worn out.

Unfortunately, I'm now replacing them 1 year later because I experienced some awful wear to the point where the center of the right rear is below the wear bar with less than 10k miles on them. My last set of tires experienced very even treadwear on all 4 tires, giving me 22k miles dispite having only a 200 treadwear rating (The falkens have a 280). With these tires, all 4 wore very differently, with the right rear experiencing the most drastic (and strangest) wear of the group. The rest of them are showing wear on the edges, with the centers still looking like-new. The right-rear is worn down below the wear bars in the center, with the sides still appearing like new. All 4 tires have approximately 30lbs of air pressure.

It's tough to blame the lousy wear on the tires considering the inconsistant wear on them, on the other hand, the last set of tires I had wore very nicely.

Interesting opinion... do you have anything more definitive or useful in terms of specific comments? Have you ever run them, or is this simply what your other suppliers tell you to say? From the graphics under your user name, I am guessing you sell tires... a more detailed comment from you might be useful.

I have some Falken 451s on the front of my car at the moment. Seem to handle well and wear reasonable.

As for cheap tires I have liked: Kumho 712s I liked a lot, hated the 711s. Eagle F1s, didn't like at all. Avon M550s, so-so. Avon 500s, like pretty well.

I tend to read the Tirerack reviews and look at the Tirerack ratings; I stay away from Consumer Reports as it's aimed more at long life and silent ride than performance.

Overall, I've yet to find a tire that wears perfectly evenly, has outstanding wet and dry traction, lasts 100k miles, AND is cheap. If anyone knows of such, PLEASE let me know!

Re: Falkens??

I presently have Falkens that I got used off of eBay. They don't grip too well, but I think that's more because they're old than anything else. But I'm not sure. They seem to work fine in the rain as long as I'm not driving like it's dry.

low treadware, somewhat noisy, traction is nill

and these comments are from customers running them on accords and camrys and are older folks driving. they pick up consumer reports, see that for some reason they praise them, mostly the price, so they think they are getting something great

you get what you pay for. look at the price difference between a ze-512 and the rt615...its for a reason

If you like those out of round, no traction POS tires.......

And yes, this is from experience with the 712's. No traction out back or up front when driven agressively. Not much of a performer at all and its a good thing lead is cheap. Otherwise with all the weight it took to balance those out of round buggers it would have cost a small fortune.

I've said it before. Unless you're financially in a bind and just need tire to get by, buy tires that will not limit your performance. A cheap tire (and yes price of $100 is a cheap tire for our cars) will get you mediocre performance. How many of us mod our cars with mediocre performance in mind? I'd bet that would be 0. So why limit your car's abilities with cheap tires?

Cool Falken FK452

I've recently installed 4 Falken FK452 tires and am quite happy with them. I had Pirelly P7000 275 ZR17 on before but they were3 discontinued. I've had no gripping problems with them as others have mentioned.

I've been running 315 30 18 Falken RT615 on the rear and they seem to be very capable I don't expect them to last more than a couple years. They will replace the Perellis that I have up front when they wear out.
I'm very happy with them.

I've had Falken 452s since last august, they've been a really good tire so far, considering they were $100 less per tire then the Pirelli's they replaced.
