Post Factory SS/SLP Wheel Stamping

Does anybody know what stampings are on the factory SS/SLP 16 X 8 and the 17 X 9 wheels to insure they are originals? Thanks for your help on this.

Re: Factory SS/SLP Wheel Stamping

I have some 97 SS wheels however my car is currently in my mom's garage about 20 miles from me so I'll try to remember to get these markings for you.

If your car is a convertible it should have 16x8 ZR1s. SLP didn't put 17" wheels on the convertibles because they felt ride quality would suffer.

The stock SS wheels for coupes are 17 x 9.0". The convertible wheels are 16 x 8.0". Never heard of a factory 17 x 8.0"

Re: Factory SS/SLP Wheel Stamping

But they wouldn't be "stock SS" wheels.

Just saying they are out there so he should be careful if looking for a set of factory wheels.

That being said, 30thSSRag, if your car is a 30th Anniversary Edition (Arctic White w/ Hugger Orange Stripes) the correct factory wheels for your car are white 16x8 ZR1s.

Chrome ZR1's, according to Dave Hamburger, were an option on 96-97 SS's and also were made available through Chevrolet dealerships.

Re: Factory SS/SLP Wheel Stamping

Thanks for all of the response everybody. Yes my car is a 30th Anniversary Edition (Arctic White w/ Hugger Orange Stripes) convertible,6 speed, with the correct factory white 16x8 ZR1s with original tires on them. I am wanting to get a set of chrome 17"GM/SLP like offered on the 2000 SS and I want originals not knock off’s. What I need is the stampings on the wheels. Do they just say GM? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Factory SS/SLP Wheel Stamping

Not sure if it helps any, but I've got an '00 Z28 with factory chrome "star" wheels. Just noticed yesterday that they say "GM" on the outside of the rim, where the wheel weights go. Very obvious, I can't believe I never noticed it before!

Re: Factory SS/SLP Wheel Stamping

Thanks 6spdLT1Z if you are able to get the markings from your buddies chrome 00' SS that would be great! Thank you also RealdealZ28, being a Z28 car it may or may not apply. The 96'/97' SS wheels were installed at SLP until GM had taken over the SS camaros again in 98'.I started thinking that I have a fairly extensive part # knowledge of the 1st gen cars and not to bad on the second gens but I am almost ashamed to say that part # wise I know almost nothing about our 4th gen cars. Maybe a new section in the forums Well so far the consensuses is that they have a "GM" stamp. Any further updates are appreciated.

Re: Factory SS/SLP Wheel Stamping

I bought 10 spoke SS wheels from a guy on Craig's List and was also concerned. But I don't recall if I figured they were factory at the point of transaction or before hand....but yes, mine has "GM" stamped close to the side wall of the tire.

Re: Factory SS/SLP Wheel Stamping

Hey F1GT it would be interesting to know if there are any additional stampings like date code or like on the 1st an 2nd gens a "K" for Kelsey-Hayes
