Drag radials that last
Re: Drag radials that last
Appears you measured the overall width of the wheel (not the tire) and got 9", then subtracted 1" to get an 8" width at the tire bead. A 5.5 backspace on that wheel will produce a 3.5" "frontspace". That works on the back wheels, but it pushes the front wheel too far toward the outside, under the fender lip. That would explain the rubbing if its in the front. Wouldn't explain rubbing if its in the back.
An 8" wide wheel can not be used for a 275/40-18. That size tire need at least a 9.0" wide wheel. That tire would also be a 26.7" diameter, which is too large for a 4th Gen.
You would use a 245/40-18 (25.7") on that wheel. You might be able to push iy yo 255/40-18 (26.1"), buy technically, most tire manufacturers recommend at lead an 8.5" wide wheel.
