drag radials

i am looking in to a good set of drag radials for better traction soon and i just have a question.. In your guys opinions what is the best drag radial for the money. I have heard alot of different things. I know mt's are good but the are also more expensive.

Re: drag radials

these are going to see a good amount of street use too by the way. Not driven every day but on nice days if that make any difference....

Re: drag radials

A very rough guideline:

clarification #1 = best, #3 = worst

Traction:
#1 - M/T
#2 - BFG
#3 - Nitto

Tread Wear/Rain issues:
#1 - Nitto
#2 - BFG
#3 - M/T

Hoosier is also making drag radials now, but I haven't seen any feedback on performance or tread life.

Re: drag radials

I think the previous post is showing the Nittos have the least grip of the group but wear the best and perform the best in water. Good thread btw. This answers a question for me since I put nitrous in my 95 but don't want to buy a rear end right away. Now I need to find a good place to buy the Nittos ..Thanks!

Re: drag radials

My 60' times are better with my street Goodyear 275's, than they are with Nitto DR's. Nitto's kinda suck in my opinion...

would have to agree with that. while i havent had m/t's yet, its only because people have warned me that you only get about 3k miles on them. i dont care about that, but with a stock 10 bolt rear, the other warning was they are very tough on the rear. bfg for best all around imo

Re: drag radials

I wouldn't stress too much on the 10 bolt with MT ET Street Radial issue, AS LONG AS you've got an auto. We see guys making low 1.4, even a few high 1.3 with these, so they darn sure hook. Manual car, yeah, well, the 10 bolts gonna die anyway no matter what you run for tire, if you beat on it. But the autos, while always possible to break the rear, seem to do ok. Just a little less hit, and they hold up. Mines going on 3 years in the LT1, 3.73, 3200 stall, and one hell of a 1-2 shift... but I only make a bit under 300 RWH.

The 10 bolt is a crapshoot one way or the other... but I'd buy a good tire, or stick to streets. If you run drag radials, run them for traction, not treadwear, and not what they do in the rain. If you care how you handle and how you do in the rain, get off your butt and change them out with your street tires at the track.

i agree with the above rankings.

Re: drag radials

Never used DRs other than Nittos, I liked em. Having said that they don't last very long with a little bit of heavy footed driving, makes me wonder how bad treadlife is on the others that are supposed to be better

Re: drag radials

i'm thinking about putting DR on my daily driver, bouncing between notto's and bfg. I know someone who has mickey mt's and they hook like crazy, but they are horrible in the rain and shouldn't be considered on a car that will be driven daily. I'll let you know what i go with and tell you how i like them.

Re: drag radials

I just read in another thread about the BFG KD(W)s. The information was just what I wanted to hear. Works pretty good in the rain; all but eliminates the tires barking hard into 2nd and very little spin off the line.

Re: drag radials

I have 275 bfgs on my car. Before them I would spin through 2nd. Now I have to pretty much dump the clutch to get any wheel spin. You do notice that the car handles a little sloppier around corners but nothing too bad. I've driven them in the rain and they aren't that bad at all. Maybe when they lose more tread the will be but for now they are great. Probably the best mod I've ever done for my car! I'll probably only get 8000 miles out of them but $300 every 8000 miles is worth it to actually hook up when I get on the gas!
