I've got a 91 z28 with a 4th gen rear and have 17x11's with 315/35 nitto drags. My problem I have is that the tires are dead in line with the outside of the 1/4 panel. They dont stick out and they dont tuck in. I WILL have to roll the lips but this wont be enough to stop the rubbing when I hit a bump. What I was thinking was can about 1/8" of material be removed from the inside of the wheel where it bolts to the rear? If I could just get that 1/8" I think I will be alright with clearance. Can this be done?
If not then I have no choice but to add a spacer between the jounce bumpers so that the tires dont hit body. It will be a hard ride

 

humm i have a 4th gen rear end too, and will see if i can see what your saying. gonna borrow my cuz's 17"x11" rims for a lil bit and see. i would just have it rolled. but if u want i will mount them on my car and see if they hit onmine. (BTW mine are some what rolled

 

My wheels are already mounted on my car and I have roller the lip. I havent driven the car yet since its still being completed. I think it will rub when I hit a good bump or pot hole. thats all. I just wish I could take off 1/8" from the center hub of the wheel

 

if you do this i hope you plan on gettting it professionally machined. otherwise may have balancing issues

 

well my dad says he CAN do it on a machine he has as work. He is a machinist, he WONT do it because he really cant hide 2 wheels in the shop. I am looking for a shop that will do it but I think most are gonna say hell no since there is a possibility that they will be sued or something if the wheel breaks or something. I will find a place and see what they say. I mean basically the wheel just has to be placed on a lath spun and cutting edge be put up against the hub on the inside

 

u may be onto something..i think the "iforged" wheel company makes custom offsets and lip by doing this procedure...not 100% but ask some guy who own these wheels...u can see on chuckys car that the lug nuts stick out further on either the front or back...this could really only be done by doing what u meantion..but then again those are forged wheels

 

Probably would have been easier to just get 10.5's

 

um guess what smart a$$, I got a set of limited edition wheels that are discontinued and I bought them used from a friend. So, that is why I didnt just buy 10.5's.

 

how much clearnce do u really need? 1/2" or less

cause maybe if u can get a shop to machine your rotors, down a little bit, if u get what i'm saying. can u take a pic?

 

I need no more then 1/2". I bet even 1/4" would be fine. I dont have pics of it right now
