Chrome 2000 Corvette 18x9.5s on a '95 Trans Am, will they fit? What size rubber?

Hey guys,

I'd like to get a set of Chrome Y2K wheels like the ones in this link for my '95 Trans AM (RED):

http://www.wheelsforless.com/search_...ID=C50XX-89563

Does anyone know if these wheels will fit a '95 Trans Am w/o much issues? What size rubber can I run in front, and what in back?

Car is gonna stay the stock ride height (maybe 3/4" front and 1/2" rear drop). Will use adj. Koni shocks.

Does anyone have pics of a car like this (red '95 Trans Am) with such wheels?

Thanks a lot,

Igor.

P.S. I heard OE concepts has chrome issues. Car is not driven much, so I'm not too concerned.
Also, am wondering if anyone makes 19x9.5s or 19x10s or so in that style too, for the rear?

I'd like to stay away from major massage work, but, would I need it with 18s or 19s? What size rubber?

Thanks.

The listing shows an offset of 65mm. If that's correct, they may hit the steering knuckle in the front, or be very close to it. In any case, they will sit very deep in the wheel wells. That's why I generally recommend no more than 56mm offset on a 9.5" wide wheel. The 18" diameter moves the lip of the wheel out 1/2" more on the steering knuckle, and the knuckle is curving inwards at that point, so the extra 1/3" backspace may work. To get an idea of how deep these wheels sit, look at a WS6 or SS with the 17x9 50mm stock wheels. The outside edge of the tire/wheel will be 1/3" deeper in the wheel well than that. Might cause problems with rubbing when you lower it.

In the back, it works out to about 7.75" backspace, so it will fit, and its not likely to rub, even thought its pretty close to the inner fender liner. When you compare it visually to say a 17x11 wheel, the outer edge of the tire/wheel will be 1.33" deeper in the fender.

Tire sizes that would work include 275/35-18, 285/35-18 or 295/35-18 (a bit of a "crunch" since this is normally recommended for a 10" wide wheel).

Maybe the "+65mm" offset is a typo.... because the correct size would be "+56mm".

You seem knowledgable with tires/wheels.

I've seen these wheels on TAs before, but not sure what brand and what offset.

I thought there was another brand that made reproduction OEM wheels. Something perhaps wider for the rear. What's the widest I could fit on the front/back w/o major issues (wheel/tire wise)? 17x11 sound wide, and I am not sure if I want to go with 17" wheels. In the future I want to run z06 binders.

Thanks,

Igor.

SO went to the local wheel places, seems that they can get OE Y2K wheels.

56mm offset for 18x9.5 and 65mm for 18x10.5. Can I fit those 10.5s on, or no?

Anyone know of wheels that are that wide and would fit the car?

Thanks.

18x10.5 with a 65mm offset will require a spacer, anywhere from 3/8" to 1/2" thick. That's an 8.25" backspace.

Ok, thank you. I don't think its for me then, a bit too big.

What about these C6 Z06 wheels.
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...0.6&vid=004173
They come in 40 and 50 offset (From what I can get from thsi link). And 18x9.5 size. What offset should I get from the two for the '95 bird to create the least problems.

Also, you seem very knowledgable on this subject and I see you have a lot of replys on posts with wheel size/fittment issues.
I'm looking for the look, but i also want handling function. Straightline traction with these wheels is not my first priority, but turning ability is.

Car will have the following mods:
Spohn Adj. PHR, poly/rod combo
Spohn Adj. LCA, poly/rod combo
Koni SA shocks, stock springs
35/22mm hollow Strano's bars
Poly trans/tq bushings

Am I barking up the wrong tree trying to go with 18s? Would 17s be much better, or depending on the tire?

And lastly, would 275/295 combo be good (in 18x9.5" all around), or should I go 245/275?

Thanks,

Igor.

I only see 50mm coded into the wheel size. They do mention 40mm in the "reading the wheel size" pop-up, but that's just an example of how to read the information listed for a sample wheel, not specific measurements for the Z06 wheel.

50mm is a good offset for the 9.5" wide wheels. I think there's a link in the FAQ to a pic of my car with 49mm offset wheels... basically the same location in the wheel wells.

I've never driven a 4th Gen with 18" wheels, but I think the 18x9.5's should be fine for overall handling. Get a quality tire. I would keep the tire sizes the same front and back, and use a 275/35 or a 285/35 all around.

Cool, thank you. There is a 40mm as well, just a different link. Would that be any good?

Thanks,

Igor.

To me a 40mm wheel is too close to the outside of the front fender. But some people like it that way. I've seen people go as low as 35mm offset on the 9.5" wide wheels. I don't like the look, but some people do. Look at the photos of the 49mm wheels linked in the FAQ. Then think what the wheels would look like if you moved them out almost 1/2" more.

I used to have a link to the 38mm offset wheel photo, but whoever had posted it must have taken it down.

Thanks,

I didn't realize the FAQ was so helpfull. I don't mind that look, but I do mind having rubbing problems. I also heard firebirds are a bit different then Camaro's, but not sure if thats true or not. 50mm 18x9.5 all the way around would probably work the best for me, realisitically. Still not sure if I should try to go 275 front and 295 rear, or just stick with 275s all the way around. Then I could even rotate them.

I'm also still undecided on what wheel to get, Y2K C5, C6 or C6Z06. Anyone got pics of a red trans am (or any lt1 trans am) with any of those wheels?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Igor.
