Can I get a 16" tire in a 275-315 series?

Hey, I'm putting Draglite XP's on my car, and I decided to go the 16" route because I dont want to grind my rear calipers down. What is the widest easily available 16" tire I can get, and what size sidewall would I need? Thanks!

Problem is there aren't many wide 16" tires out there. The BFG Radial T/A is one that I am aware of, but that not a true "high performance" tire. It's general purpose all-weather tire. They make 16's up to 295, but only in fairly large diameter.

A 295/50-16 is 27.6" diameter, so that would be 2" larger in diameter than the stock tires. That's about the largest diameter you are going to fit in a stock wheel well. And the rear of the car will sit 1" taller than stock, giving it a real "rake". That diameter also makes it feel like you put lower numerical rear gears in the car.

Ther is a 265/50-16 on the Radial T/A that is only about 1" larger diameter than stock. It also about 1" wider than stock.

My car came with 275/40/17's on it I was about to find some 26.5 x 8.5 x 16's after a little internet searching, I'm kinda thinking I should just say to hell with it and grind my rear calipers to put 15's on.
