camaro 17" or 18" wheels???
camaro 17" or 18" wheels???
Hey everyone.. I have a 2000 Camaro. I am buying some eagle 077 wheels and was wondering how they would look. I am trying to decide on 17 or 18's. I am not sure if the 18's will look ok. The car is not lowered or anything. Anyone have any pics of a camaro with 17"s and 18"s and not lowered?
Also what are the advantages/disadvantages of the 17" and 18"?
Will I have any rubbing or any other problems?
Since it is not lowered I wasnt sure if it would look like my car is jacked up or something with 18"s?

Re: camaro 17" or 18" wheels???
Whether the wheels will fit, and whether the tires will rub depends on the offset of the wheels, and the outside diameter of the tires. As long as you match what came on the car, you can't get into too much trouble.
The most common solution to wheel upgrades, and one that assures no problems, is a 9.5" wide wheel, with a 45 to 56mm offset. Put a 275 or 285 section width tire on that and you are fine.... 275/40-17 or 285/40-17 on a 17" wheel, 275/35-18 or 285/35-18 on an 18" wheel. If the 077's only come in "even" widths, get at least a 9" wheel, and don't go beyond "275" on the tire.
Keeping the tire diameter the same means the gap between the tire tread and the fender will stay the same, so it won't look any more "jacked up" than your stock wheels/tires will.
I'll let someone else comment on 17" vs. 18"

Re: camaro 17" or 18" wheels???
285/40/17 all around w/ no rubbing problems. It does now needed to be lowered. 18" will hurt perf and the $ goes up. If you go w/ 18" or bigger, your tire will prob get shorter then you have to worry about potholes.

Your stock brakes (assuming that's what you have) might start looking a little puny if you go 18 or bigger.
17x9.5's with 275/40's are good all around performers, reasonably priced, and won't require any speedo correction. That size was OE for the SS's.

im dropped on 18s and its sitting pretty.
the problem is that the rub hurts at times, but screw it...you're driving a camaro, not a civic...

Re: camaro 17" or 18" wheels???
Go with the 18s, I had 17s before and the ride doesn't feel any harsher. I also noticed more response in the corners with the smaller sidewalls. I haven't had any issues with potholes though the roads around here aren't bad. You will however pay more for the tires on the 18s, it's about an extra 100 dollars but the look is definetly worth it. I snapped a few pics of my car with my most recent set of wheels which you can see here http://community.webshots.com/user/stikshift93. They're 18" moda r6s, the pics are a little dark for some reason. I think my camera is busted but you can still see them pretty good. One other thing, i would definetly invest in lower springs if you get rims, they make a world of difference when it comes to looks.
