Buying wheels and tires soon

So the tread on my BFG KDWS tires is just about gone, so I'm getting ready to do the wheel and tire combo.

I want to go with C6 Z06 wheels, 17x9 or 17x9.5, with 285's all around. I'm prepared to make some adjustments to the fender lips, if necessary.

I don't want 18" wheels, and I don't want to pay the premium for 18" tires, so please don't waste everyones time by telling me you think 18"s are better.

These are the only ones I've found:

So my questions are:
1. Has anyone seen 17x9 or 17x9.5" C6 Z06 replicas for sale anywhere else? I'd love to find a lower price.

2. According to my interpretation of the wheel and tire FAQ, the 54mm offset on these wheels will look pretty good. If anyone has pics of an F-body with 54mm offset wheels on them, I'd like to have a look. I've seen pics of 56mm, and those look good, and I can't imagine 54mm would look all that different.

Thanks!

Its less than 1/10th of an inch, so don't worry about it. There are pic's in the FAQ of 45, 49 and 56mm 17x9.5" wide wheels. There is a link to 38mm offset, but its dead.... to me those stick out to far, but obviously not to everyone.

I bought a set of Z06 replicas from www.discounttiredirect.com. I got 17x9.5 with 275/40/17 yokohamas all around. great deal. call them direct for better prices.

Didn't have to modify anything for them to fit

Just out of curiosity, if money were no object and you had the choice between the C6 Z06's and a set of CCW 505's, which would you go with?

I'm not familiar with the 505's, but a Google Image Search indicates that they're pretty similar to the C6 Z06 wheels. I like what I see, but I would want to actually see them in person before making that decision (I've seen C6 Z06 wheels in person).

Why, are you selling a set?

Are you going to be driving the car in the winter? I noticed you wanted the KDWS which is an all season tire(I believe the DWS stands for Dry Wet Snow). If your going to be changing wheels in the winter or not driving it, why buy the all season tires?

I have KDWS now, it's what was on the car when I bought it in August. I don't drive it in the winter, and I do not want KDWS again.

I'm going with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s. Unfortunately, it looks like the budget isn't going to allow the wheel upgrade right now, so I'll be getting a set of 245/50/16s and mounting them on my stock ten-spokes.

I considered the KD and KDW, but as far as I can tell the GS-D3 is the best option given my driving habits and budget.

These follow along with the "split spoke" theme that both the C6 Z06's and the CCW 505's have. CCW 505's by the way are a forged billet wheel that run about 3K a set. They're a highly respected wheel in the f-body community. Anyway, these're called Cray "Scorpions:"

IMHO, wheels with slightly curved spokes blend well aesthetically with the lines of an f-body. A nice fat lip doesn't hurt at all either. A set of these in chrome will run about half the price of a set of 505's and steal ALOT of that wheel's thunder in the process.

Re: Buying wheels and tires soon

Nothing wrong with a lightweight forged wheel.

I like the look of the Scorpions better than the 505's, but upon further examination of both the Scorpions and the 505's, I think I've decided that I don't like the "deep dish" style of either wheel (I prefer the spokes flush to the outside like the wheel I pictured).

Are the Scorpions forged? I'm guessing not, based on the price.
