Best tire size for handling on stock 95 z28 rim

So I’m looking for tires , oe size is 245/50-16 , I was going to go with the general max stock size but then I got to wondering are there better tires I can fit on my stock rims to make my handling better or just have a better selection of tires? I mainly just back mountain drive an want to auto x with it. But keep the same rims.

The stock size is fine. You could also go to a 255.

Unfortunately, tire options in that size are mediocre. You’ll have fun autocrossing, but it’s never going to be fast. You’ll be putting down some of the slowest times around.

If you change your mind about keeping the stock wheels, the stock SS size, 275/40R17, is better. 315/35R17 has some good options and is the widest you can reasonably go. You might also consider going to an 18” wheel — that’s where the tire options get really good.

I use to run 18s on my 93 race z but that had some big 315 an 325 Hoosiers on it. I had to run spacers which I wasn’t to crazy about. Plus made the cars it noticeably higher. I’d like a set of 02 as 35th rims or a c4 grand sport rim but things are just so expensive.

Since you indicated in your earlier posts that you have swapped in larger 13” brakes, and are attempting to run wheels from a Cadillac CTS, no one can answer your question without the details on the wheels - diameter, width, and offset.

Have you reviewed the FAQ in the “Wheels & Tires” forum?
