Best backspacing both front & back?

I found the wheels that I eventually want to buy. They are made custom by Billet Specialties. They can be made to whatever backspacing I want. This is the info you need to know. The fronts are 17x8 and the backs are 17x10. No they don't have 17x9's, 9.5 or 11's.

I'm thinking to get 6.5" BS in the back. My reasoning is because 7.93 is the max BS these cars can take. The Front spacing on my rims would be 3.5"...The max FS on the rear is 4.0".

Now the fronts I'm not sure about but i'm thinking 5.0" BS.... That leaves 3.0" FS. I'm guessing on this one from the fact that the OEM WS6/SS wheels have a 2.78. What more could I do?.......Injunneer??

10" rear wheel needs 7.5" backspace.

8" wheel needs 5.5" on the rear I would assume it is the same for the front.

Re: Best backspacing both front & back?

A 6.5" BS on a 10" wide wheel will put the tire very close to being outside the fender. The 11" wide wheels use 7.93" BS, because that is the only dimension that "almost" clears the inner fender, and keeps the outside edge of the wheel/tire just barely under the fender line when you look straight down from above. I have the 17x11 7.93" wheels, and to me they are too close to the edge of the fender.

I also run the 15x10 7.5" BS Weld Pro-Stars, and that keeps a meaty 28x11.5-15 drag slick under the fender. So I would think you would want at least a 7.0" BS in the back.

In the front, the stock 8" wide wheels have a shade over 6.5" BS. You could move them toward the outside of the fender, since the stock wheels sit in too deep, but I don't think you would want to move them more than 1.0" toward the outside of the fender. So you would be looking at a 5.5" BS in the front with an 8" wide wheel.

You are making a mistake when you are calculating "backspace" and "frontspace". The quoted width of the wheel is measured over the distance between the bead retention flanges... in other words, its the width allowed for the tire bead-to-bead. But the true width of the wheel is the tire bead width PLUS the two bead retention flanges. In general, you acn assume 0.45"-0.50" as the width of each flange. That means an 8" wide wheel is really 9" wide, and a 5" BS would give you a 4" "frontspace".

Thanks...that all makes more sence now. I'll probably run a 5.65 BS in the front with the 8" wheels with 275 meats. The backs...I think I want to run 7.5 BS with 315's!

You can't put a 275/40-17 on an 8" wide wheel. Should be at least 9" wide. You need a 245/45-17 for an 8" wheel.

Re: Best backspacing both front & back?

I thought that the stocks were an 8" wheel and that they could fit 275's? No Or maybe i'm thinking about the WS6/SS wheels which are 9" and I know those work

Eh...I guess i'ma do a 245s in the fronts then. Would that look funny with 245's in the front and 315's out back???
