backspace and offset of salad shooters?
backspace and offset of salad shooters?
I"m looking into getting new wheels. Currently I have the salad shooters. "16 which i think are 8". Have 225 tires up front and 245 in rear. But I need to know what size offset I can use on my 95. Will the +43 offset fit. What about the backspacing? Sticking with 8" 16's, because I have new tires.
Re: backspace and offset of salad shooters?
The stock wheels are 16x8 with a 55mm offset (approx 6-5/8" backspace). If you use a 16x8 wheel with a 43mm offset, it will just move the outer edge of the wheel toward the outside of the fender about 1/2". Will not be a problem, because that exactly where the outside edge of the WS6/SS wheel/tire combo sits.
I would strongly recommend that you consider 17" wheels, just to get some selection in tire width. The 16x8 are pretty much limited to a tire no wider than a 255 (because that's the widest they make in a non-competition 16"). With a 17x9.5" wheel, you can go to 275 or 285 section width.
There used to be a device sold on TV info-mercials called the "Salad Shooter".... it had a blade that cut the vegetables into slices and shot them out of the device. The cutting wheel looked a lot like the stock wheel on a 93/94 Z28.

Injuneer,
In reference to your suggestion for the 17" X 9.5" wheel, what offset, etc. would be the best in your opinion for an LT1 Camaro? I know nothing about this. Can you give me an example of what you personally would use for both the wheel and tire for the Lt1 Camaro with dimensions, brand, style, offset, and everything else needed to know to purchase these.
It would really help me out greatly.
Thanks, J

Re: backspace and offset of salad shooters?
I bought my Formula new in 1994. Within a year, it was rolling on a set of OZ Racing Monte Carlo 17x9.5" 49mm offset wheels, with Goodyear GS-C 275/40-17 tires. Fit like a glove, increased traction quite a bit, looked a lot better.
About 5 years later when I did the stroker motor, I needed a little more rubber in the back on the street, so I opted for a set of AFS "replica" ZR1 wheels, polished finish. 17x9.5" 56mm offset in the front, with BFG KDW 275/40-17's; 17x11" 50mm offset in the back, with 315/35-17 BFG Copmp T/A Drag Radials. Lot's of "sticky".
They don't make the OZ's any more, but there are several good-looking 17x9.5" wheels for the 4th Gens.... the ARE Torque Thrust II's are a good example... 45mm offset, so they have a very aggressive, close to the edge of the fender look.
OZ Monte Carlos
ZR1 replicas
Yes, I know the back end sits too high, but the rear suspension is set up for 28" slicks. Click on "Trailer Queen...." in the signature.
Torque Thrust II's

Re: backspace and offset of salad shooters?
I am only aware of a few style rims used on the fourth generation Camaro. Are there anymore? I can't find any that I truly like that would fit. I would love to see a set of Torque Thrust D's on a Camaro. Do they have any that fit the Camaro?
I appreciate the info. you provide. I can now look at your car and see the description of
what you used to get it to look like that. That helps a lot. I really like the
stance of the car with the Zr-1 replica wheels. I could go for that look if I
find nothing else! Those cars look awesome by the way. I just wish I could find
some other rims that would look good on this car. It is almost as if the way
the car is styled, it just doesn't really look all that better with any rim.
That's just my opinion though.
I have some more questions but I will get back to you later on them.
Sincerely and thanks, J
