If you want a "show" car, buy the 6 banger instead of pissing away cash on a "non-performance" car. Then feel free to add all the bling bling you want. Put your ground FX kit on, your 20" dubs, a 4' tall spoiler (on top of the factory one), some vinyl overlays on the headlights to give the appearence of projectors, spray paint all the interior parts and dump 150 bucks on decals...

Hmmph, that sounds so good...anyone want to trade a V6 for my 8?
How could you forget the neon kit?

Re: Any one running 20's

Every time anyone brings up anything that could be hated on or made into controversy this happens. I think there was a question asked that didn't have to do with someone's bad opinion. I think 20's look fine if the car is lowered and done right, I have 20's on mine, with huge baer brakes behind them. I think it looks nice myself. Everyone likes certain styles but it's not cool to talk crap about someone's opinion of what looks nice.

Re: Any one running 20's

Has anyone ever heard of owning more than one set of wheels? I have a set of 17" ZR1's and a set of 20"s. for everyone complaining that 20"s are no good for anything why aren't you running a set of 13" rims and tires. why in the world would they put 19" and 20" wheels on a factory car? they must be stupid and want the car to go slower. I'm pretty sure they put 20"s on the rear of the new vipers. i cant figure out why they didnt put 17"s on it with a huge side wall? how many people here take their car to the max and road race it on public roads? if you know your going to race the car then you need a diff setup for the track. My 17" ZR1's with 335's in the back still give me traction problems. and my car isnt that fast. back in the 60's and 70's why didnt they use 17" rims? insted of 14" or 15". times have changed, 20"s are the way to go if you can afford them.

Re: Any one running 20's

the funny thing is...is all you guys care about is speed, and jer stated it best...TIMES HAVE CHANGED, 20's are in...end of story; now i am not saying you car looks like sh*t if it is riding 18's(hell, mine is on 18" white z06 rims), and to tell you the truth, it has alot of appereance mods(neons, sub, kit, racing seats, pretty much everything) but it also has alot of performance mods(enough to run 11.93)...its all about personal preference...i like fast cars, but i also like nice looking cars...and pretty much all cars look better when they are not stock...it is not the 70s anymore

and why would i buy a v6 if my show winning car, can go fast at the same time

Re: Any one running 20's

The viper has WIDER wheels not just larger diameter. That makes a huge difference. Look at the original post, the guy wants to run narrower wheels than stock. They are also like drilled rotors on cars like Porche. They were put there not for better function but because thats what the people who bought the car wanted so the manufacturer complied. Those are also cars that are actually designed for larger wheels, not lowered cars that had them put on so there isn't really enough room for proper suspension travel so parts get hammered on to make them fit so they won't rub.

Just because something is "in" at the moment doesn't mean everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon and look dated in a few years time. Directional wheels were "in" back in the 80s, but do you see them now? And if you happen to see them what do you think? I bet if you see them on a f-bod you expect to see a mullet too.

Dang straight I care about speed and handling. I bought my car to drive daily and race, and I race it in the same form that I drive it.

The auto manufacturers didn't use 17's in the 60s and 70s because they were being cheap, wheels were steel so 17's would be very heavy, and the 14's and 15's were wider than the previous 17+" wheels. Go back further and you'll find 17 and 18" wheels, but they'll be the width of bike tires. The traction limit back in the 60-70's was due to the hard bias ply tires. They didn't have the radial or compound technology that we have today. Could you imagine a 40 series bias ply tire? The 60 series followed grooves and let the rear wander bad enough.

If larger diameter wheels are so great for traction then why don't modern drag cars run 20s? Its because the width is where the difference is made. Then you also have greater tire shock from shorter sidewalls. As for 13's, they don't make wide enough tires for them and they won't fit over brakes large enough to slow a fast car down very well.

Like I said, I've seen some 19s and 20s that were tastefully done and they looked OK, but still didn't look right IMO. I don't even care for those sizes on trucks/suv's. IMO its about as good as a lowered dually.

As for talking smack about others cars, I kept my comments subdued until inccorrect info and comments about the looks of stock sized wheels were made. When someone incorrectly states that larger wheels are better for performance I'm going to disprove their comment and if their comments had stayed subjective I'm sure there would have been less "bashing". The V6 comment was obviously in direct relation to the "non-performance" car comment.

Not to knock anyones car (Its just an observation), but being a "show winner" is relative. If the judges are fast & furious, guess who is going to win. I've also seen cars win because they were the only painted car in their class. Ya, I've been to some small shows. One had at least 5 categories for Mustangs and only 1 for Camaros.

Re: Any one running 20's

So anyway JST I am not sure you will get a straight answer. Everyone I talked to said you would have to mess with the fender lips to get them to fit, but I wouldnt take that as gospel. Sorry I couldnt help you more than that, let me know if you try them if they fit etc. I ended up buying some WS6 wheels 17's but I would like to have the 18's on back like to vette.

Nah, I don't really like those wheels. I think it's a combination of too many spokes and the lip being too deep. It just looks funny.

Here's some pics of this guys 20" blades. Actually I would never think 20's would look this nice on an F-body, but IMO they do.

That silver Z need to be about 2 - 2.5" lower and it would look way better. i do like the wheels, but maybe a 19 would look better in that style. clean car by the way. thats my car above
