American Eagle Wheel Questions
American Eagle Wheel Questions
Hello, i am planning on buying American Eagle Series 212 wheels. I am pretty sure they will fit my camaro. If i get 17 X 9.5 all around which ones with all the offsets and backspacings will i need to get? Here is the website.. http://www.eaglewheels.com/212.htm. Also, i might do 18 X 9.5 out in the rear. What do you think i should do? And which ones would i need to get with the correct backspacing and offsets and etc..? I am very new to all this wheel talk. Thanks
Re: American Eagle Wheel Questions
Just offhand, I don't see any wheels on that sheet with enough offset. The bare minimum that you can live with on a 4th Gen, with a 9.5" wide wheel is +38mm. That puts the front wheel/tire very close to being outside the fender. The back would also be close to the edge of the rear fender.
I've used a full set of four 17x9.5" wheels with +49mm offset, and thought the appearance was pretty good.... not in too deep, nowhere near being outside the fender. I've also run 17x9.5 +56mm offset wheels in the front, and the 1/4" difference between those and the +49mm wheels isn't noticable.
The largest positive I see on that sheet for a 5 x 4.75" bolt circle is +19mm, and that would put the wheel/tire about 3/4" outside the front fender.
It's the width of the wheel that determines the offset.... so it doesn't matter whether you are looking at 17x9.5 or 18x9.5

Re: American Eagle Wheel Questions
Each width of wheel requires a different range of offsets to fit correctly. When you start getting into narrow wheels like 8's, you have to decide if you want the wheel deep in the fender or near the outside edge. A stock 8" wide 4th Gen wheel has a 55mm offset. If you want them closer to the outside edge of the fenders, use a 30mm offset. But with a skinny tire on an 8" wide wheel, having them that far out toward the edge of the fenders might make the wheels look like "outriggers". I think it would be best to look at a car with a 30mm offset 8" wheel before deciding if you like them. The narrower the wheel and tire, the worse it looks when they are too close to the outside of the fender.... just MHO.
