96 Z28 wheel question.

I've just got a few questions about wheel dimensions I should use with aftermarket rims on my 96 Z28.

Front:
If I want 16x7, what should I be looking for in terms of bolt pattern, rear spacing, and offset? (I dont know what these terms really mean lol, I just see them a lot)

Rear, if I want 16x9.5, what should I be looking for in terms of ^^^?

I dont know if you guys field questions like this a lot, so I hope its not too annoying. TIA.

Re: 96 Z28 wheel question.

i dont even know if theres any (tasteful) wheels in our cars fitments that wide in 16 inch wheels

consider upgrading to 17s or 18s

popular fitments

17x9.5 with 275/40/17 tires
or
18x9.5 with 275/35/18 tires
bolt pattern is 5x120.65(4.75)

Re: 96 Z28 wheel question.

If I'm looking for the 17's and 18's though, do I need to consider offset and back spacing and rear spacing and all that crap? Or is it pretty much just straightforward?

Re: 96 Z28 wheel question.

the ideal offset is about 56mm for the 9.5 inch wide wheels

Haha I hate to keep sticking to this 16" obsession of mine, but would these work?:

Re: 96 Z28 wheel question.

Why are you going narrower than stock on the front wheels? Are you trying for a "skinny" look? If you are getting 16x9.5's for the back, what tires are you planning on running? There just are not a lot of high performance 16" tires wider than 255. The BFG's that you can occasionally find are "all season" tires.

You have to consider offset and back space no matter what size wheels you are putting on the car.

The "bolt pattern" is how the bolts that hold the wheel on the hub are spaced on the hub. You need 5 bolts on a 4.75" (120.65mm) circle, often written as 5 x 4.75.

You need a wheel with a fairly large offset, or they will be sticking outside the fenders. Offsets in the range of 35 - 56mm can work. But you have to review the specific width and offset of each wheel.

Maybe explaining what kind of "look" you are trying to achieve, and what kind of tires youe are putting on the wheels, and how you plan to use the car would be helpful. Its one thing to do a setup like you are asking about for drag tires, and its a whole different story for a road race application, or simply cruising.

Re: 96 Z28 wheel question.

Basically I just wanna ride, forget about the different widths lol, I'm seeing that that pretty much just aint gonna happen. I guess im just lookin for a set of 16x8's so I can use the tires I have now. I'm really liking the Eagle 077's (16x8, 5x4.75, +43) and the stores are saying that those will fit Camaros/Firebirds perfectly. Theyre also relatively inexpensive so as long as there are no major dimension problems there, those are lookin like the winner.

Re: 96 Z28 wheel question.

The 16x8 +43mm wheels will fit. They will be moved ******d from where your stock wheels sit by about 1/2". Will probably look better.

[EDIT] can't figure out why the language filter doesn't allow the word o-u-t-w-a-r-d ?????
