9.5s VS 11s???

Ok I'm hopefully going to have enough money left over after my motor gets finished to buy zr1s for my car, but I can't decide wether to get 9.5s or 11s. I'm doing heads, cam, gears, and full bolt ons with some suspension mods. Would I be better off doing the 11s so I can run a 315/35 to try to get the car to hook, or will a drag radial in a 275/40/17 be ok? This will be a street car that might see the track 2 or 3 times a year, but it will probably see its fair share of street races but I don't want it to be a drag race car only. I plan on driving the car to work on the nice days. Let me know what would be a better choice

Thanks

The 275/40 will most likely hook better than the 315/35 because the slightly taller sidewall outweighs the need for sligthly wider tread width. Plus the tire will be cheaper and you have many more choices. Then you also have the reduced weight of a smaller tire and wheel.

I'd rather spend the extra cash dumped into wider wheels and tires on suspension mods. Judging by your sig, you have none and wider tires will get you nowhere.

But do what you want.

Actually While I'm doing all of those mods I'm adding a BMR adjustable torque arm and J&M LCAs and mabye some relocation brackets if I have any money left LOL

Relo brackets over the TA. There are local guys cutting great 60's with the stock TA and a poly bushing. There, now you have a couple hundred $ more to spend elsewhere. Get some shocks or some cheap 16's and run some soft tires for the track.

Whats the TA? I just woke up and am confused by that. I also forgot about subframe connectors. But like I said the car will only see the track once in a while so I'm not worried about having a set of drag wheels and street wheels. But on the other hand I'm sure the car will see its fair share of street races I'm sure. What do you think is the best street tire as for wear and traction? I was thinking about getting the Nitto 555s in the street tire, not the drag radials. And if those don't work for traction I can try the Nitto drag radials.

I'm not sure, but I'm just rambling right now LOL

TA equals torque arm. It holds pinion angle and constitues the 3rd link on the 4th Gen's three-link rear suspension. An adjustable aftermarket TA(Spohn, BMR, UMI) can also help with traction. I agree with Greed on the smaller wheels with softer tires. I spend over $1500 on the 17X9.5, 17X11 set up for the "wider tires= more traction" theory. Now I regret it and am going with 15" or 16" lightweight Centerline wheels with MT ET street radials for a nice weekend warrior/tracks visits set up. Good Luck!

for the street, i love how the zr1s in grand sport offset look. for the track, 15s or 16s hook better. so get the zr1s in 11s gs offset, then get urself a set of welds or something for the track

Well I'm getting the torque arm in a package deal from a friend for basically nothing so I will still have money left over for the relocation brackets. But I'm just going to go with the 9.5s all around and hope for the best.

The sidewall height on a 275/40 is the same as a 315/35.

I've had good luck with the 315/35-17 BFG DR's. But its not a daily driver.
