275s on 17X11?

I'm looking for some MT ET street radials for my non-dd. I've got the 17X9.5, 17X11 set up now. MT makes 275/40R17s but not 315/35R17s. It says in the Wheel/Tire FAQ sticky that 275s will keep the same tire diameter on 9.0-11.0 rims. Would 275s on 17X11s not be a good idea? Would it look stupid to have two of the same width tires on two different width rims on the same car? If so, are there any suggestions for drag radials for 17X9.5, 17X11 set ups that are a decent balance b/t traction and tread wear? I'd rather not pay $200/tire for tires that only last 5K, but traction is important.

It will fit fine, the recommended rim width is 9-11" for a 275 tire. It will look a little odd, but will actually have a bigger contact patch that if mounted on a 9 inch rim.

That's what it says in the catalog on their site. I've heard this spring..March or April, but they've been saying that for a least a year.

The numbers shown in the FAQ are "general" numbers, representing the typical allowable rim widths, as recommended by the tire manufacturers. They are not necessarily valid for ALL tires that size. Each manufacturer is free to set his own specifications on rim width. You need to check the manufacturer's rim width recommendation for the SPECIFIC tire that you are planning to buy, particularly for a specialized tire like a drag radial.

Go to the M/T website and look at their recommendations. They "measure" the 275/40-17 ET Street Radial on a 9" rim, and state that the tolerance on rim width is +/- 1". Based on that, I wouldn't put the 275 ET Street Radial on an 11" wide wheel.
