275/50/15 or 325/50/15 M/T Drag radials??

I'm about ready to order some Prostars and don't know whether to get 15x8 with 275/50/15 or a 15x10 with 325/50/15. Which one would be better?? Right now I'm running stock 3.42's and when that rear end goes I will be getting a 12 bolt with 4.10's. Should I just stick with the 275/50/15:15x8 combo or go with the 325/50/15 and 15x10's???

Would a 325 even fit? Thats a 27.8" tall tire and i think it would stick out of the fender a little, and when it expands as your going faster (if you are putting a slick on there) then you will have a lot of problems with the fender and inner fender because its so tall. I think with a bolt on car, all that would be needed is a good 275 tire.

M/T lists the tires as:

275/50-15:
-11.3" wide
-10.0" tread
-26.0" diameter

315/50-15:
-13.0" wide
-11.0" tread
-28.0" diameter

The 28" diameter is tight, but it may fit in the fender opening. With the 15x10" 7.5" backspace wheels, and the tire's 13.0" width, it will probably take a bit of hammering of the inner fender liner. It will not sit outside the fender. See the pics in the FAQ of a full 28" ET Drag on those wheels. That's a 13.1" wide tire.

I ran a 28.0" QTP and it fit in the wheel well OK. But when trap speeds went over 125MPH, it grew enough to rub on the leading edge of the fender opening. I had to move the axle back a bit to make more room. But a drag "radial" will not grow as much.

The big issue with a 28" tire is the fact that you are doing the same thing as swapping in lower numerical gears. A 28" tire, compared to a 26" tire will make your 4.10's feel like a 3.81 gear (if there was such a gear). You have to select rear axle ratio based on engine redline, estimated trap speed, and tire diameter. What tire diameter did you use to select the 4.10's?

I know some who run the 325 50 R15s on 15x10s. They look sick! There's some massaging to the wheel well and bump stops....The 275s will fit with no issues on a 10" wheel, too...

325s will fit. I'd almost consider running them on a 12" wheel, but they will work on a 10".

I fit a 28x10.5W under my 95 with a stock width 9" (used to be 12-bolt), no mini-tub and about an inch to spare.

The W-tire is just as wide, if not wider than the 325 radial. I'm switching to that because drag radial action is where it's at.

Be careful with the 28x10.5-15W ET Drags. I ended up taking 1.5" off the leading edge of the rubber bumper cover to get them to fit. And when we ran it up over 130MPH on the dyno, the tread still hit the metal point that is behind the rubber bumper cover and had already been hammered back a bit. The tires are going to grow at least 1" at the top end.... maybe a bit more.

Another reason I'm switching to a drag radial. I don't want to start cutting metal off the fender. I trimmed the leading edge of the rear bumper, but that was urethane and much easier to replace than the rear fender.

I didn't use a tire size to select them. I just wanted a taller gear so I wanted to go with the 4.10's. Right now with my 3.42's I think I will just get a 15x10 with the 275/50/15 because with that tire being 26 " tall it will act about the same as the 275/40/17's I have on there now (even though they are a little shorter). I think if I went with anything too big, like the 325/50, it would probably make my car feel like it had 3.08's in it, LOL. If I do get the 10" now then in the future when I do upgrade to the 12 bolt and I do stick 4.10's in it, the taller 28" tall tire won't be as bad. It would be compared to having 3.73's.

Thanks for all the info guys

Anyone have any pics of a 275/50 on a 15x10??? I think I am going to go that route so that way I will have the 10" wheel to upgrade to a bigger tire when the time comes.
