275/40/17 Tires

I need to get a new set of daily driver tires for my 95Z and am wondering what tires would be best, especially for wet weather.

Thanks for the help.

The best.. probably the michelin pilots..

Bridgestone RE series worked well for me in the rain..

Kumho Estcas worked well in the rain but not as high of a performance tire as the others.

I loved my Bridgestone RE730's on my mustang and now have Nitto NT555 on my Bird. Both worked really well for me.

I have Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval tires on my WS6 for the warm months and they are awesome. Check out the rim protectors!! Bought them on tirerack.com

Re: 275/40/17 Tires

I just did a ton of research on this and ended up going with Pirelli P-Zero Neros for my '99 SS. Scored nearly as high as some ultra high performance tires per Tire Rack's ratings in dry grip and tended to do much better in the wet, in ride comfort and has some snow capability. Best bang for the buck I thought.

The best overall high performance tires for this car is probably the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 or Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. I used the Pilots on my E36 BMW M3 and we have them on our MB C230. Fantastic tire, but very costly. Over a grand for a set in the WS6/SS size. Both the F1 and Pilot are summer only. The BF Goodrich T/A g-force KD is a great dry tire but sucks in the wet.

Not a fan of Kumhos. I had a set of Ecsta Supras on my car when I bought it and though they had plenty of tread left, the sidewalls were cracked, one had a slow leak, and they would vibrate over 90 MPH. Its only edge is price, but tires are no place to cheap out. You tend to get what you pay for. I wouldn't put Kumhos on my car if someone gave them to me.

Scored nearly as high as some ultra high performance tires per Tire Rack's ratings in dry grip and tended to do much better in the wet, in ride comfort and has some snow capability. Best of all, they're not all that expensive. Mid-level price. Best bang for the buck I thought.

It's a very hard tire with no traction at all. Its only edge is price, but tires and brakes are the places I'd Never cheap out. You tend to get what you pay for. I wouldn't put Kumhos on my car if someone gave them to me.

firestone firehawk sz50, great wet weather tire. have michelin pilot sport a/s on my 04 gtp compg, sz50's don't come in size on gtp, the michelins cost more, and i definitly like the sz50's better. the best traction tire is the nitto but you will not get very long tire life- not that i get good tire life on any of my cars

Re: 275/40/17 Tires

Do they still make the Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP RFT? It was a replacement for the discontinued SZ50 back in the year 2000. Bridgestone only lists it as being available in two sizes (they are required to manufacture OEM sizes for a specific period of years). I can't find any places like Tire Rack that even sell them.
