225/55/16 or 225/50/16 on stock rims 16x8
As the title says i was wondering if i could put a different size tire on my stock rims. 16"x8".
The original tires are 235/55/16, and there is not much of a selection of tires out there at this size.
I just want a good daily driver, that has excellent rain traction and dry traction, snow and/or ice isnt a problem, as i put her away for winter.
I have been looking at the NEXEN N2000,N5000 (good reviews for wet/dry traction), and the Marshal power racer 11 717. all of these tires are from walmart.
I am open to other suggestions if anyone has any ideas, but my main thing is is if 225/55/16 or 225/50/16 or even 245/50/16 would fit on factory 5 spoke rim.
thanks to all that answer.
also are the falken 512 ,NITTO nt450, or the yokohama yk520 anygood ?
Thanks to all who respond.

You need to match the tire diameter to the stock tire size, or it will throw the speedometer/odometer off. Alternatively, you can have the new tire diameter programmed into your computer.
If stock was 235/55-16, diameter = 26.18"
Neither of the 225's would be a good match:
225/60-16 = 26.62" (-1.6% speedo error)
225/55/16 = 25.74" (+1.7% speedo error)
The best match would be:
255/50-16 = 26.04" (+0.5% speedo error)
The error would be greater with the 245/50-16 = 25.65" (+2.0% speedo error)
A 225 might look a little "streched" on an 8" wide wheel, since they will fit anything from 6" - 8" wide.
