hello everyone a have some 17 weld racing wheels that i just got a couple of weeks ago and they had 215/50R17 so i wanted to know if i could upgrade to some 245/50R17

Can't tell without knowing the width of the wheels. Tire section width has to be compatible with the wheel width. Might also want to provide some basic info about the car they are on. You also want to match the stock tire diameter, and you are looking at two different tire diameters, with the 215/50 being 25.46" and the 245/50 being 26.65".

the car is a 95 camaro and it came with 236/65R16 the width of the rims appear to be about 7 inches

Your car didn't come from the factory with a 235/65-16 tire. That's a 28" tire, and would barely fit in the rear wheel opening. The V6's had a 235/55-16 tire optional, and the base V8's also have that size tire.

What are you trying to accomplish by changing the tire size? Are you trying to get it closer to the stock diameter? Are you trying for some sort of skinny look in the front, with wider tires in the rear? And you have to know the width of the wheels, not guess at it.
