20s on a '01 LS1

So i found a set of wheels that i like and am being told by the manufacturer that they wont fit my '01 unless i go to a 20" wheel because of the wheel design and backspacing.

What are the pros and cons of 20" wheels? Does anyone have experience with 20s or pics? Comments?

Pro's = Room for bigger brake rotors, looks cool, looks cool, looks cool, looks cool!

Con's = heavy, makes car slower, more expensive, potholes love them!

Looks like the Pro's win!

I think ive seen one or two with 20's that actaully looked good and tasteful. Also there are very few choices. Stick with 18's and lower the car. I think that achieves the best look/stance. But thats just me.

does anyone have pics of cars with 20s on them? How do the 20s affect ride quality?

20's on these cars look like total crap. Not only do you lose ride comfort, but they make the brakes/rotors seem way too small.

Now i would never go bigger than 18's but Wicked1's formula looks damn good. Atleast it doesn't look like some import wheel.

Here's how mine looked with the 20's on it.

Pros: In my opinion, it looked very nice. Everyones head turned to check it out.

Cons: Although i was warned, i didnt believe. It slowed the car down so much more than i thought it would. That alone made me want to get rid of them. You have to put such thin tires on them that if you're not on lookout all the time, you will damage them and i live in florida with no potholes.

I had them for 2 months and got rid of them. I'll try 18's maybe, but no bigger again.

i agree with the guy above. with just my own car on the dyno i've loss roughly 30 horsepower for every " in tire i've gone up. if your not making some power your factory motor ls1 or not will be slower then a v6, suck your gas and everything else fun out of it. this is just my point of view but that's on a dyno, add the front wheels spinning on the street. you'll need some serious brakes or consider changing pads every summer.

also steering components, beef up your box and other goodies and you'll still wear out your box very shortly if you drive as they are heavy

for a show car or your weekend cruiser if your into it why not but there are alot more negatives then pro's to large wheels and tires. i love to see boyd, foose, etc build 600 horse motors and throw 22's on the car. notice the numbers are always on an engine dyno.

in the end do what you love but from my personal experience 18's are as large as you'll want to go on a street car, i am currently running 19's but i drive the car 500 miles every 3 years if i'm lucky so the minor issues are really that. the best explanation to sum it up is to go for a jog with and without 5lb weights. drive your car for a month with 20's and then throw 16's on it you'll think you have a race car.

good luck.
