1996-97 SS Wheel needed
1996-97 SS Wheel needed
Wow, it's been a while since I have been on here.
Last monday night an evil curb decided to jump out and eat my rear wheel. I bought the set of wheels about 4 years ago from a company that sold on ebay. They seem to not be on there anymore. The wheels are 16x8 SS style wheels in the silver finish.
The rim lip had about a 3 inch section taken out of it and it is only a matter of time before the tire looses it's seal and goes flat.
It seems that this style wheel has really lost it's popularity as it seems imposible to find one for a reasonable cost. ANY ideas? links? private sellers? I am in the Atlanta area

Re: 1996-97 SS Wheel needed
wow, it has been a while since I've been on here. Or I am getting to old. Possibly both but I can not figure out how to get to the for sell section! I have been unemployed since the week before thanksgiving and am just now going back to work so I don't really have the money to buy a whole set of wheels and tires. Although I am interested, are the silver chrome or polished?
I didn't realize only the convertibles only got the 16x8s, why?
My car is an original Z28 so I went with the 16x8s becasue I wouldnt have to buy new tires from switching from the god awful salad shooters.
I called up a local junk yard and they wanted $100 for an original salad shooter! For that price I will just drive back to alabama and get one of the originals out of storage.

Re: 1996-97 SS Wheel needed
The SS and WS6 coupes got 17x9" wheels, with 275/40-17 tires. GM felt the ride would be too harsh on the SS and WS6 convertibles due to the shorter sidewalls, so they stuck with the 16" wheels to keep the taller sidewall. I've ridden in an SS convertible with 17" wheels, and there were no problems at all.
Its the "(Parts or Cars) for SALE" section.... why do people write "for sell", when its "for sale"? In all the years I've been on this site, I've never been able to figure that out. Maybe you can explain it.
In the meantime - scroll to the bottom of this page, to the field labeled "Forum Jump". Click the menu arrow, and on the dropdown scroll down to Marketplace. Select "Parts for Sale" or "Cars for Sale", or whatever you are looking for.

oh, gotcha, under the marketplace section. I think the sale/sell debate is the same deal as the they're/their/there debate. I know which one of those to use but the sale/sell one passed/past(!) by me
Re: 1996-97 SS Wheel needed
For any one that is curious I found the original company on eBay again it is AFS Wheels. Where the wheel lip cracked it looked like poor aluminum almost like pig iron, but hey where else can you get this price on new wheels.
