18's???

Got to do something about the fender gap. I really don't want to lower it.Will 18's make a difference? Would the brakes need to be upgraded since it will be more rotating mass than the 16's??

No need to change brakes. I personally won't go bigger then 17s, theres not much of a difference, just less tire and more wheel to damage.

Since you will probably match the new tire diameter (e.g. 275/35-18) to the the old ones (e.g. 245/50-16) there won't be any change at all in the space between the tire and the fender.
