18 x How wide can I go?

I'm thinking of putting 18x10.5" tires on my 98 z28 (in the back, 9.5 up front). First of all, will this fit? Second of all, can I go wider? And lastly, what number tire should I get if i want an extremely low profile tire? Thanks, sorry there are so many questions.

Actually, I think you are putting 18x10.5" and 18x9.5" wheels on your car.

You want to keep the tire diameter similar to stock. That would allow you to run a 275/35-18 or 285/35-18 in the front, and something like a 295/35-18 (slightly larger than stock diameter) or a 315/30-18 in the back.

Whether the tires will rub will be determined by the "offset" of the wheels. You need to look for offsets in the range of 45-56mm for the fronts, and 45-50mm in the back. With the 315's in the back, there's a good chance you might have to hammer the inner fenders and/or cut the corner off the jounce bumper brackets.

Check this out, you'll have all the info you need. I would stick with one size all the way around. My choice is 18x9.5's.

Injuneer is correct, they will fit so long as the offset is correct. I say go for it if you can.

Man I feel like such a jackass.....after all the lectures I've given my friends and family about "wheels" as opposed to "tires", i feel like such a n00b. Lol well i know the difference I just made a typ-o, I think i meant to say wheels and tires. Anyways thanks for the help.

Re: 18 x How wide can I go?

pics in sig of mine with 18x9.5" my tires are a 275/40/18 - i dont like the look of low profile tires so i went with a 40 sidewall - they fit in there without any massaging of the fender well- every now and then on a hard bounce though my front tires will slightly ....caress.... the front of the plastic fenderwell- not hard enough to leave and rubber or wear tire ive been checking for last 3k - just enough to leave a shine.

next summer im going up to a 315 in the back i think-

ohh and my 275/40/18's do throw my speedo off - i compared to a radar sign and up to 55 or so its not really noticable but when my speedo reads 93ish im really hitting 100-101 (didnt notice till i went to dragstrip)
