17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
I'm considering putting this tire/wheel package on my 2002 Z28 along with 17x9.5/ 275-40-17 on the front. I currently have SS takeoffs, 17x9/275-40-17 all around with no issues. Has anyone had any bad experiences with these larger packages (or good experiences, for that matter)?
Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
hundreds...probably thousands of guys are running that combo.
the fronts will be no problem
the rears may cause some clearance issues but shouldn't be anything major. you will have to grind off the "bump stop" to prevent it from hittig the rim/tire when the car is jacked up by the frame. nothing major...just takes a few minutes with a grinder.
it is possible you will have to pound in the inner fender to make room for the tires. not everyone has this issue. i for one did NOT. i have 1/2-3/4" clearance all the way around the tires. although if and when i lower it i'll probably have to do it.
do some searching in the wheels/tire forum...this has been discussed AT LENGTH!

We have a "Wheels and Tires" forum, and at the very top of the forum is an FAQ. The FAQ includes a detailed writeup answering the question you asked.

I sure as hell hope they work like everyone says. I ordered a set yesturday.
Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
I have them on mine. Didn't have to do any pounding on the wheel wells, but did have to remove the bump stops. Even after grinding on them they hit the rims when cornering hard.
Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
The amount of fender you have to bang out will depend also on what type of tire you go with. 315/35/17s are all not the same exact size.
Rolling the fender lip away from the wheel is also a good thing to do
There are actaully people who have done 315 on front and back. I am going to attempt it next year. Fronts can be fit with a minor amount of modification to the fender and some people grind the nub off the spindle. 50mm offset is what most people like on the Camaro. 36mm offset supposedly fits almost perfectly on the Trans AM.
I am contemplating doing a 36mm setup all around on my Camaro, even if it includes a lot of negative camber and flaring the fenders. Only problem is finding an affordable set of 36mm wheels.

Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
A while back there was a post comparing Firebirds/Formulas/TA's with the 50/56mm offset ZR1's to ones with the 37.5/36.5 ZR1's. The majority of the people who took the time to look at the comparative pictures agreed that the 37.5/36.5 wheels stuck out too far. It's purely subjective, and personal preference. Flaring the fenders would help.
I think the only place you will find a recommendation for the 37.5/36.5 combo on a TA it on the AFS website. They also told everyone you couldn't use 17" wheels on covertibles, which was also bad information. I think they've recently corrected the staement about the convertibles.

Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
Ok put the 17x11's on and the 315s on the rear. Had to really gring the bump stops. Doesnt seem to be a problem now. On my 2000 SS I didnt have to do anything HOWEVER the rims were not 17x11s
Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
having different sized tires on the front and back will prevent you from being able to rotate the tires. I thought of this just after ordering mine of course. Will this significantly reduce tire life of the front tires?
Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
I have NEVER rotated my tires with an f-body anyways. Is it your daily driver? I have never had issues with them wearing that fast. It is SO worth it just to have the WIDTH in back. IT is so awesome!
Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
yeah it's a daily driver. Probably about 12k per year-80% city driving. That's my cause for concern. What brand of tires have you run and how much life did you get out of them?
Re: 17x11/ 315-35-17 rears ok?
I used to run Dunlop with the 315s, I have ran Kumho's with the 315s also. Neither one lasted very long, so I went with a cheaper tire. Sumitomo's 107 a peice. Dont know about them yet. I know with the Kumho 315s I had to get tires twice a year for the rear. The Dunlops lasted just a little longer then that. As far as I can tell the Sumitomo's have more tread on them then the others did. Supposed to be good in the rain also. I ordered them from tiredirect. Really good price.
