OK, I know this question is asked alot and I searched it already, but I would like to hear a few stories on how it's worked out for some of you guys. The good the bad and eveything in between. Some advice on tires would be appreciated too. Right now I have 275 Kuhmos on 9.5's and they handle good, but hook in straight line at all.
BTW the car is a '97 Z28

 

I guess what your asking is how do 17X11's with 315's work out for most people right ?

 

basically yes Mike......but I'm wondering if most of you have cut-bash-bend to fit them.....and was it worth it?

 

Ahh ok, well I have seen where 17X11's with 315's have fit great with no extra work was needed. I think this has to do with getting the right back spacing and tire selection. Just for an example if you get 17X9.5 ZR1's for the front you need the 56mm offset. For the 17X11 rears you need the 50mm offset. Nitto drag 315's should work on that combo. Hope that helps a little.

 

i just mounted my Sumitomo HTR Z 315 x 35 x 17 tires on Chrome ZR-1( detroit wheels - jegs catalog ) 17 x 11” 50mm offset wheels ..
you will need and adjustable panhard rod to center the tire/wheels under the fenders , I have not lowered my 95z , so I like how the tire/wheels fit under the fenders ..
they Do Not stick-out pass the top of the fender , if you lower the car then you might have to roll the top fender lip up as not to rub/cut the top of the tires ..
there is less than ½” space between the front back-side inter fender well & front back-side of the tires , I plan to take the tire/wheels off and make a little more clearance ( tap in the wheel wells ) for the tires …

in order to mount tire/wheels to car , you have to jack rear-end(center axle housing) of car with floor jack , because the back-side of wheels will hit the rubber bounce pad and misalign wheels from mounting to axle flange correctly...

Like Patriot right above me said, with 50mm offset, the most you *may* have to do is:
1. get an adjustable panhard rod
2. roll the fender lip
3. bang on the inside of the wheel well w/ a BFH
4. move/remove/modify/or live with the bump stops

 

I've had several different sets of 11s on the rears of a couple of my Camaros. The biggest problem has always been the bump stop bracket. AFS (popular maker of replica ZR1 style wheels) says to jack the car up by the rear to put the wheels on then you don't have to worry about the bump stop interferring during install. But, what about later? I'm sure this is the way most do it (and they sell a TON of wheels) but with my luck I'd get the car airborne and damage my wheels. hahaha

Some people say you can't put 11s on a convertible but not only did I do it but the car is lowered around 1.5" or maybe even a little more. All I did was remove the bump stops and grind off the mounts.

what about 54mm offset in front and 58mm offset in back?

 

A 58mm offset on a 17x11 wheel would give you an 8.25" backspace. There is no way an 8.25" BS will work on a 4th Gen without some serious hammering. The 17x11 50mm wheel has a 7.93" BS, and that causes problems on about 1/2 the cars, requiring hammering of the inner fenders. Moving the wheels in another 1/4" is going to increase the problems.

The front 17x9.5's will work with offsets from 45mm to 56mm.

 

That's what I did on my 96SS but on my convertible, for some odd reason, it wasn't enough. Got aggravated and ended up just getting rid of the entire thing

 

It amazes my how much different each car seems to be. I am now running huge 28x10.5-15W ET Drags, and all it took was a little more hammering of the inner fender. Yet others have had to cut out most of the inner fender liner and jounce bumper area, just to fit the smaller Hoosier 28x11.5-15 QTP's (which I have also run with no problems).
