Re: Texas Window Tinting Laws

I have lived in Texas most of my life. Was even born here. I drive a black car and have most of my life.

Some didnt even have AC...

Geesh.. grow a pair!

I always prefer the t-tops off, windows down AC method.. want it cooler? give it more gas..

that's kinda what I thought too, but I didn't argue with 'em... I just assured them that I would remove it....

they pulled out a huge book of rules, and said that it had no year model limitations... so I kinda rolled with the flow.

Maybe you can go dig a ditch with the sweat already starting up, but my line of work requires being dry.. T-tops off gives a bit more ventilation than a hardtop ..moron. In most cases, cars without factory a/c have a better system of ventilation. My 69 panel truck works well with its' vent windows and kickpanel vents. No matter how far you roll the windows down the header heat will rise through the floor tho.

Re: Texas Window Tinting Laws

reminds me of the aggie joke:

Aggie, Baylor man, UT guy are interviewed before enterign the desert for a day in the hot sun...

A reporter asks "if you could bring one thing into the desert with you what would it be?"

Baylor replies "bucket of water, to drink when thirsty"

UT replies "umbrella to block suns rays"

Aggie replies "car door"

reporter asks "why a car door"

Aggie replies "so when it gets hot, I can roll the window down"

Re: Texas Window Tinting Laws

Texas is a bit confusing in this regard.

For inspection purposes, you can have 20% on your front doors. The state law says 25% is as low as you can go (which generally means 35% tint as most tints are 20% or 35%)

About the 1987/older vs 1988/newer.

The 87's and older don't allow you to tint the front windshield, but do allow as dark as you want on back door windows.

The 88's and newer allow you to tint to the AS1 line or 5" down on the windshield but only allow your back door windows to be 25%.

It's a trade off. I've seen blue cop cars with 5% on all the doors in Houston. I say tint as dark as you want.

You're nuts Ian. I have the same car as you. Black paint, black leather, hardtop. And once it's above 20C outside, the A/C goes on. You and I should trade cars sometime. I'll drain the R-12 out just to make sure you're not cheating.

The only way to be comfortable during the summertime is a minimum absolute bare minimum 35% on the sides. Preferably 20% and 5% on the back. R406a helps too (6-10F colder than R12)

If I had T-tops, I would immediately tint them 5% and then put the shades in.
