Speeding ticket...better ask here too...

Anyone know for sure if I have a leg to stand on about my ticket I got? The deputy (or whatever you call them) was in the median on the loop, way back in it so he was COMPLETELY out of the street light, and NO lights on at all. I saw them come on about the time my radar detector went absolutely nuts! I know it'll be hard considering my actual reason IS what most probably try to BS with, but I wouldn't have done it if I saw any lights at all. I waited for the last car in front of me to turn off before I did anything at all and then waited until there were no side roads to worry about. BTW, 80 in a 55 is $175 in Midland County. Also, I have absolutely no previous citations for ANYthing at all so I'm hoping that will help me some.

So, you mean you are going to base your defense on an acuusation that the cop was hiding while he clocked you doing 80 in a 55?

I'd base it more on it being your first offense etc. than that.

Contact the agency, take a defensive driving coarse(cost around $25.00), and be on your merry way.....

yep, best bet is defensive driving. if they have probation in midland that would be cool too. they dont have probation in the county where i work, but back home if you choose probation, you pay $10 and dont get caught speeding for another 3 months and it disappears.

depending on the county Defensive Driving can be a lot more just in fees to the city.. either DD, pay it, or pay a lawyer and go to court. If the cops held up big signs with flashing lights ahead of clocking people then they would never fill their weekly quotas, and get bonus tickets in their monthly auction for confescated drugs and other items
( the latter of the above is purely speculation )

Here's the deal. I did it after it was "recommended" by some friends that I try and blow out whatever was causing my service engine light since the car was running fine and all, but it was saying the driver's side cat. is inefficient. Its only a year and a half old or so. Anyways, I found a strectch of road on the way home that had NO side roads coming into it, and NO other cars. Its a 2 lane in one direction part of the loop around town separated by a very large median with NO cars on it either. Dropped it into 3rd so I wouldn't have to go so fast to get the revs higher. Start slowing down so I can turn on the road to the house and BANG, radar goes nuts and I see his parking lights come on. I think I know why he was there and am sure he figures I'm the reason. (Some dumbass keeps doing a burnout whenever they turn on the road I went down.) Anyways, I can't talk to the judge directly, I have to write him a letter. Guess I'll just hope he's feeling generous and takes my record into account...some advice should be shined away, is what I've learned.

i hide from view all the time. in fact, most people don't even know i'm anywhere around until the lights behind them come on. to bring that up is useless.

what my court does on tickets 25 and over is you pay the full fine amount, take defensive driving, then get 3 months probation and it stays off your record. the only other option is to pay it in full and it goes on your record.

contact the court and have them explain your options.....or you could wait until pretrial and probably get a good deal then. that's what i would do.

Yikes

I think I speak for most on this board when I say that I didn't really want to KNOW there were actual police officers snooping around on this board.

Thanks Domestic', I did find out until about a year and a half or so ago, officers had to be visible (i.e.: lights on at night sittin' in the dark). I don't deny that I was in the wrong or anything like that. The main reason I posted is to get a response from people with experience with it, or (better yet) get input from an officer such as yourself. Writin' a letter today I guess! L8rs

heh

My name is actually Joe Smith, I live in Minnesota, not Austin. I'm 5'8" and 300lbs. I don't actually drive an SS, it's really a Hyundai Elantra, and I never speed.....I swear.

Why is it that the front view of that cop car looks awfully familiar?

Be afraid.................be VERY afraid.
