Hmmm, you need to contact the person you got caught with.. they should be on the police report.. GET A COPY of that REPORT if you havent done so..

You two need to either be represented by the same attorney or you both need to talk about how to appear and get your stories straight..

See, often you will be used against eachother... need 2+ people for a "race"..

Now for the incidentals.. Did they see you start together?
was it on the freeway?
How fast were you two going?

These little things all can help defend you..
see, being the defendants, you are at an advantage cause the city has the burden of proof..they have to prove that you in fact were "drag racing". This is harder when they only have 1 person and not the other to testify.. You can say that you were merely driving at a said speed when the officer misconstrued the events.. another thing you want to do is talk to a few lawyers...
get the yellow pages..
call around..
even if they seem pricey, they will tell you right off the top if they deal with traffic tickets.. if they dont, they may refer you..
you want to get price quotes and want to know what procedure they will use.. (for example jury trial, or if they just call in a favor)
also, you need to ask what they will try to get you.. defered adjudication (probation) is the least.. the most you will hope for is full dismissal.

yes i know a little too much about this crap.. hehe but my record is spotless! :P
