HMP this Friday

I am thinking about heading out to Houston Motorsports Park this Friday night to get some baseline runs in before I do some more work on my car. If anyone else ends up out there, stop by and say hi. I'll be in the Red 94 Z hardtop with black ZR1's. Probably won't stay too late, but thought that I'd check it out since its only about 20 minutes from my house.

Re: HMP this Friday

Why is that?

I read the thread about the guy not getting his money, and it sounded to me that they just didn't know how to run an event. I don't think I would enter into something where anything was at stake there, but I was just looking for a place to try out my car and see what it will do. That and I figure since the crowd should be much smaller than HRP and it's so close to my house that it would be at least worth a try.

If there is a good reason to stay away from there, I'd like to hear it before I make the mistake of going. Thanks.

Re: HMP this Friday

I just cant get into 1/8th mile runs.. I will go to baytown a million times before I go to HMP..

we should get all the H-town people together and arrange a trip to baytown soon.. like on a sunday.. (wednesday is the best but not the easiest for most to make it.. track is always prepped great for wednesdays for the bracket racing.. friday is the worst because of all the first times and lamers that go out there and do burnouts on street tires and mess up the track.. sunday is the next best day but its instant green..)

i would be down for going if we get organized for a sunday.. caravan out there or just meet up and park in the same area (best area is facing the staging lanes so after you cool down you just pull forward and are in the staging lanes..)

HMP IS A GREAT TRACK . The event in question was put on by a promoter NOT the track owners . The one side posted here was not the exact way it went down . The lane worker is not the promoter and to protest you must HAVE BOTH racers present . HMP is an all cement track that was ground to remove bumps and then treated with VHT by the NHRA track prepper . The Bakers own the track and sometimes they rent the track out for evants like the CVlobberthon . HRP is a great track as well but it's a haul all the way to Baytown for some baseline runs . THERE IS NOT A SINGLE REASON TO STAY AWAY FROM THE TRACK .

1/8 mile is a huge reason..

the "haul" to baytown isnt bad at all.. especially if you want track that is one of the nations best.

Baytown is without question one of the best anywhere . JUST bescause your against 1/8 mile you should state that . HMP is an outstanding track . No need too diss a track bescause of your disliking the distance .

Re: HMP this Friday

I don't like 1/8th mile either. But, I do think that track is at least a good test track for any car. I have not raced there but I do have a friend with a 69 Camaro race car that go's there quite a bit and loves it. He run's 4.5 in the 1/8th. Like I said, the track is good for at least testing your 60 ft. times and It's a new clean track. They have some semi major events at that track. I saw Bob Fry reporting from there one time. When I get my car running again, I will be going there.

Re: HMP this Friday

Well, I wil probably end up there eventually, but for tonight, there has been a change in plans, and I'm meeting my brother at HRP. If anyone is there, stop by and say hi, again, I'm the Red 94 Z28 with black ZR1 wheels. I'll be parked next to a big black F250.
