Thumbs up Good Dyno Turnout in SA!

Thank you Charlie (warbird) for setting up the dyno! We had a good turnout and some decent numbers. Yes everyone dynoed a little low but it was HOT! There will probably be another dyno day in October so get those mods in and ready for another roll! Glad to see everyone there and remember there is a meeting at Pigstand on Saturday the 10th at 12:30pm.

I thought the dyno will adjust to temp/humidity. Temps shouldnt have any effect on dyno numbers. Not sure tho.

I thought/think the same thing. I talked with Johnny about this a little bit but didn't get a real clear answer. We all know that heat kills horsepower but as I saw from the computer box that the dyno is hooked to, there is a temperature sensor that feeds into the computer. The only reason I can see for doing this is to correct for temperature. I also went on the dynojet web site and found this information...

Automatic measurement of the barometric pressure and ambient air temperature together with humidity measurement ensure repeatability between tests.

this is the link...

http://www.dynojet.com/autospecs.shtml

now maybe the dyno correction is not perfect and there is still some discrepency between dynoing on cool day and dynoing on a hot day. I would think that if it did not correct for teperature at all then the differences for a cool day dyno and a hot day dyno would be much greater than 10 hp. anyway.....

But the outside temperature should have some impact on how the engine cools, runs, and performs. Granted the dyno I'm sure corrects for some of this but I'm sure there are some discrepencies that the dyno cannot account for. We'll see what happens in October when some of us dyno again.

I think the reason why all of the dynos were low is because...

YALL HAVE SLOWA** CARS!

I'll get the clips, pics, and vids up soon. I might just put it on my site or have it up on a free site. I'll email each of you the sound clips.

I think thats probably the case. In other words, the dyno tries to correct for outside air temp but perhaps the engine itself is running hotter (can't cool down much/as much from being driven to the shop) so you get a 10 hp difference. There are some things it just cannot correct for. Like I said in my last post, if it didn't correct at all I would think there would be a much larger difference. So it corrects but its not perfect (10hp off isn't that far off only about 3 percent). We all know we have the fastest cars anyway!!!!!

As soon as I get them transferred over from film to computer and on a website. Either later today or sometime tomorrow. I've been at work since before 2am today so I won't be able to work on stuff till I get home around 3 or 4 pm.

Hey, would someone please e-mail me the numbers. I'd like to see how everyone did. I was in Dallas and missed my opportunity yet again.

I'll start with numbers:

My dads 2002 firehawk M6 with 825 miles on it pulled 309 hp and 320? ftlb tq. Only mod is the K&N filter. Now if we add 10 hp to that (it seemed to be the concensus that everybody dynoed about 10 hp low due to heat) you get what most people see with a lid and exhaust. Also, its only got 825 miles so maybe it will pick up a few after some more break in time (not much though). Either way its about right for his stock setup.

Rember that the firhawks come standard with the different slp lid (ie no fins or air silencer - just like other after market lids except the lid itself looks completely stock minus the air silencer) and with the SLP dual dual exhuast. So its like seeing the differences in bone stock and one with lid/filter and exhaust. I think most people see between 15 and 25 with these.
