Illinois Cc Xe 224/230 Users Here
hi,
i'm down to cam to pick from.
1. LT4hotcam kit
2. cc xe 224/230 kit from combination motorsport
i'm leaning towards the xe, but will it pass our emissions testing in illinois? i know hotcam and cc305 will pass, not sure about xe.
i'll be getting heads ported and do opti conversion. Also am i better off with electric water pump by meizere or csi, or just stick to stock one? I've heard some people having problems with the electric ones. my mods are in my sig. I want to hang with my friends 02 ss. I basically want to be an *** kicking z on the street, i'd like low 12's. can anybody help me out with some suggestions, i would appreciate it.
thanks

I've tried 3 times with various programs, but have not passed yet... Reducing timing didn't help at all. I have plenty of headroom on CO, so I will be increasing timing significantly, adding an MSD, and a gallon of alcohol to help. That 'should' do the trick.... All tests done at (or above) stock fan temps.
If you want the CCX profile, but need a little cushion for emissions, get the 224/230 ground on a 114LS, not a 112..... I wish I would have gone 114. Not only for emissions, but for 'boost' in the future.

Sorry stonecoldz, didn't mean to steal your thread, although I would think you should be able to pass...

Hello neighbors. I'm in Pebble Creek just south of the Park (with pond) on Parker. Car is a black '94 Formula that hasn't seen the road since ~November. She's on stands now for plugs, wires, tightening the header bolts, 58mmTB, MSD 6AL, and a general engine bay cleaning. I should be on the road in a week or two.
The only distinctive sign on my car is the silver metallic "Formula" decals on the doors, in the "Firehawk" font.
Where are you?
Note: I'm old......no, make that married with one kid and another on the way, so my 'cruising' days are gone (for now).

I dont have an answer to your question, but after you get the cam installed post on how you like it, the XE 224/230 is most likely what I'll be going with when I put in a new cam.
What is the lift for that cam? My cam is a lunati grind. Duration is 222/230. Lift is .533/.544. 112lsa. This is supposed to be an emmissions legal cam. Times in the sig are with ported stock heads, slp shorties, flowmaster cat-back, and 2800 stall. Raceweight is close to 3700 lbs. Hope this helps.
Like I said before, I've failed 3 times with the 224/230/112. This was with (1) stock program, (2) reduced timing, and (3) reduced timing and 1/2 gallon of ethanol to ~9 gallons of gas.
This cam is small in comparison to other cams that have passed the IM240 in other states, but Illinois (Chicago area) is damn strict. I see absolutely no reason it won't pass in IL with an optimized emissions tune, a highly functional (stock) cat, and ethanol assistance. Please note this IS speculation at this point since I still haven't passed.
Upside - slightly more HP that HotCam.
Downside - harder to pass emission that 114LS Hot Cam. If you don't pass emissions the IEPA suspends your plates. Also, 112LS is not optimal for forced induction. If you plan on NO2 or S/C in the future, get a 114LS cam now.
You make the call.
Side note - the emissions test monitors any HC and CO emitted from the vehicle (or any other source during the test). This means it's not only the exhaust. There have been numerous people that failed emissions (for high HC) because of carbon canister / check valve issues. If that b!tch is venting or the check valve malfunctionaing, the sniffer will pick-up on it and fail you. I am currently investigating this as a potential culprit for my past failures. More info to follow when available.
