z28 rearend conversion

what is to be gained by this conversion other than better brakes, wouldnt this take away from bottom end due to the z28 gear ratio? what parts are needed to complete this conversion? brake lines? any abs b.s.? thx

not all Z28's have a 2.73 gear that would take away from acceleration, 6 speeds all came stock with a 3.42

as far as ABS goes, if the car that you are recieving the rearend from does not have TCS, then you will be fine, if it does have ABS then your rear ABS will no longer work.

if it does have abs or tcs what goes into getting it to work, and are you sayin all 4 wheels will not have abs or just the rear 2?

just the rear channels wont work

dead meat... your car shuld be able to support a 2.73, but its gonna have to work its *** off to get it to accelerate. if you do anysort of city driving you would probably loose gas efficinecy because the engine will have to work harder to accelerate, but if you do alot of highway then it would be beneficial

(if you need that cleared up just post and i will try to re-write it)

yeah the A4 has a 2.73 (i think some may have had a 3.23 as an option) and the M6 had a 3.42

My buddies simple modded 3.8 verse a stock 3.4 with a 3.42 Z rear.

The 3.4 smokes the 3.8 by over half a second each time. (can get you slips to prove it) The 3.8 mods; cut out, z exhaust, slp iac, conical filter, no spare ect.. Why does the 3.4 win, the 3.8 has 3.08 rear gears and a open rear, the 3.4 has the z rear which has posi and 3.4's...

Oh, both have an lt-1 drive shaft.

you have a 3.23 open rear from the factory (all the 3.4L f-bodys do)

If I hada 6 and had to do gears it would be 3.73's and a take off posi form slp and keep the rear drums... More gain, less hassle.

yeah that guy with the 3.4L is pretty sexxxy too so I heard

3.73s are nice as well but I think 1st gear woudl be a little rough. BUt some people have done it, specifically stockV6cam, I think. I didn't notice too big of a loss with 3.42s over stock 3.23s.

I woudl not suggest 2.73s, you it woudl turn your car into a mid 17 second car, you would have to floor it everywhere. Its kind of like the honda insight, they didn't see that much efficency in gas in daily driving as a normal compact car because you had to floor the I think its 75 hp motor everywhere you went jsut to keep up with traffic.

Also other stuffed gained with a z28 rear is Limited slip.

is there a code inside the z28's glovebox that tells what gear ratio it has, if so what is the code for the 3.42 gear ratio.
