Question Why is new 3800 so slow?

I know I'm used to my Z-28, but my mom (yes my mom) just bought a new '02 Camaro with the 3800. My wife has a '97 Grand Prix GT with the 3800 and it seems so much faster-my wife even says it seems much faster. The Camaro claims 200 HP, while the Grand Prix claims 195 HP stock. I figured maybe it's just not broke in, but we drove it from Texas to Florida, and back and it feels the same. It has 3,400 miles on it now. Has anyone else drove a Grand Prix and a Camaro with the 3800 and compared them. I am just very curious why this is so. It is a beautiful car though-my mom loves it!

Also, what do they usually run in the 1/4?

From what I've read and heard, a Grand Prix (3,400?)weighs a bit more than a Camaro (3,300-for a coupe).

GM over-rates the V6 Camaro. Gears might play into it if she has a A4 with 3.08 gears. I know my Camaro felt like a slug when I first got it. Modding it really helps though...

True, but I don't think my wife's car has low gears though. Probably about the same. It is pretty quick-maybe it's a freak, but I really thought the Camaro would be faster. I still wander...is it normal?

Hey man my mom has a brand new Grand Prix gt and I have a 97 camaro rs. I got my mom to let me take her car out one night and I had my buddy take mine out.. My Rs smoked the hell out of it. I dont know why your 3.8 seems so slow but the Grand Prix should have nothin on it

you say it feels slower, the camaro has stiffer suspension, and that will make a car feel slower than it accually is, i have never ridden in or drove a grand prix but i would imagine that the suspen would have something to do with it, look at the spedo next time you drive them, it might all be in your head

I've driven both extensive test driving when i bought my camaro. I noticed the fwd of the Grand Prix gave it more punch of the line, but i lost it over 60km's, when the maro started to pull.

There's nothing all wrong with the 3800 in the Camaro's, it's the rear end on the A4's. 3.08 gears just kill that car.

That aside, all cars are different, you could have a oddly fast GP, or a lemon of a Camaro. Stuff happens

I think maybe it's a combination of the two. You guys are forgetting I've got two camaros (read sig at top), so I know what RWD feels like compared to FWD, and I'd take RWD anyday.

GP GT=3.29 rears That is the difference.

On a roll the GPGT isn't that great. More restrictive intake/exhaust/manifolds than the camaro.
