When will my 3.4L Die?

Hit 121,000 miles this week. Still running strong but worried because I'm ganna put a bunch of miles on it in the next year while at school. I change the oil about every 2500 miles with high mileage Castrol just to be safe. So how long do I have? When will the 3.4L die? And by that I mean have to rebuild it or have some sort of major failure, not a tranny rebuild.

No real way for any of us to tell you. I do know there are 3.4s with WAY more miles than you that are doing fine.

2,500 on an oil change is a waste unless you are doing really severe duty with your car. I'm talking about letting it idle for long periods and extreme hot/cold weather. I push 4k on dino when I used to use it...oil analysis showed no problem with it. Synthetic now is 6-7k with good results.

my dad's lumina 3.1 L (basically the same motor) has 180K on it, and runs fine still.. the water pump went out once.. but other than that nothing has broken (knocks on wooden desk, cause if anything breaks , i'll be the one to fix it)

I have 130k I am sure I am one of the top 5 of ragged on 3.4Ls in the world, waterpump hasn't even gone out, water pump died on my 2.8L at 110k, when I had it.

Only motor stuff I ever did was adjust the rockers(ticking) and that was with 110-115k on the motor at the time.

My 3.4l just died at 115,54x miles. Cam bearings went out due to low oil pressure. Looking to find a rebuilt 3.4l. Oh well, hopefully a rebuilt one will be a bit more spiffy than mine was.

I am less than 800 miles away from 100,000 and the only problems I have had have been the starter and the alternator.

Hopefully my luck can continute.

BTW: How often should I tune up my car? The last time I did it was around 60-70,000 I think...

Both of mine died at 89k... its weird but they were good solid engines. Stock exhaust was nice too.

Mine has 103K miles on it right now... still feels fine to me Changed out the plugs/wires this evening actually, regular oil changes and checking the fluids goes a long way in the upkeep of a motor.

Thumbs up I correspond

I am a proud owner of a 3.4 L V6, and it has over 100,000 miles on it. The only things that I have changed on that car was a compressor (warranty) and an oil sensor (25.00). My car runs fine and I don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon. By the way its stock, just in case you were wondering
