i recently installed a slp cold air kit in my 96 3.8 and it sounds like its drawing in air really hard for like a minute or so after i start my car.....espicially for the car to be at an idle
i dont know wether its just a thing that the slp intakes do or if it is some sort of problem. otherwise the intake works great....i have noticible gains in acceleration. the noise just kinds freaks me out because none of my friends cars or trucks with intakes make that sort of noise. can someone please tell me what it is.

yeah its normal, you should have a sucking or slight whistling sound

So far the only intake I've heard that makes as much noise is on my friend's BMW.

I personally like the sound...the colder it is, the louder the intake and exhaust are. Usually scares people and makes them turn around.

Take it above 3k RPMs...it should make a spooling type sound.

 

is it like abnormally loud gargally noise? mine doesnt sound like an intake should mine gargles, and i ripped it down to the TB and still does it, put the stock intake on it stopped

 

yeah....it is a kinda loud gargeling sound....it tends to quiet down after a little while of being started though

so did you leave your intake up there or replace it with something different?

 

Interesting...the 3800 intake most be different in terms of noise versus the LT1. My SLP intake hardly makes any noise at all...just a slight whistle...

 

i left my intake on sounds like **** for a few minutes when first started then after that it whistles when i hit the throttle hard, the mechanics that work on it wondered wtf it was. i have no idea why it does it but either the restrictivity or the air silencer of the stock box gets rid of it....

 

Air noise is normal with the CAI. It should last around 2-3 minutes as the car warms up. If anyone needs the SLP CAI, I have one in perfect shape (only used for 3 months) for the 95-97 3.8v6 f-body, $150 shipped.
