What type of oil?

I know it says to use 10w30 but i feel like it doesn't stand up in the summer heat. Would it be safe to use a higher rated oil?

Does anyone use anything other then 10w30?

Re: What type of oil?

I run 5w-30 in my 94 3.4 liter. I ran 10w-30 in it for one oil change and noticed that it ran a lot smoother with the 5w-30 in it. As far as summer heat goes it should be fine with either one.

Switching up to a 10-40, or even a synthetic 20-50 is perfectly fine in the summer.

I think it's the temperature inside the engine that's most important. My cooling system keeps it in check. Not trying to be a smartass here, but I seriously doubt the ambient heat changes things enough to need a different oil.

Re: What type of oil?

The reason you don't want a real thick oil in the winter is that it will take longer for the oil to be pumped through the engine when you start the car. The longer it takes for the oil to make it throughout the engine, the more wear occurs.

Synthetic oil usually flows better than conventional oil of the same weight in cold temperatures, so you can run a "thicker" or "heavier" synthetic in colder months to keep your engine protected.
