what trans to use on 96 v6 camaro

Ok so at 75k miles my car started slipping.. after I had the trans flushed...

so now I have 186,000 miles and it slips still.... not too bad some times.. but then other times you have to let off of it for it to catch... say 2nd or 3rd gear..

I was going to rebuild it but after searching up here I deemed it is too hard and will require too many special tools that I will never use again...

local junkyard wants $450 for one with 91k miles... screw him....

so my fathers friend owns a junkyard and the computer told him that only a 1996 and 1997 will work for me. Is that true?
If I remember searching up here I have the L460E transmission.... is there something else I can use as a direct replacement? L480E? probably not but im just shooting this out here...
There is a junkyard near me called.. The Camaro/Transam shop so Im going to call them today to see if he has any transmissions......

I have found some ranging
$250 to $500

on is for $325 with 60 day warranty... guess that is a good choice?
I have to call in a bit to see what the deal is with the $250 one..
also when I go to swap out the trans.. might as well figure out where my leak is..
replace rear main seal, pan gasket and whatever else I can....

I'm not sure how the different years correlate, but you definitely want to make sure that you are getting a V6 tranny and not one out of a V8 as the bellhousing pattern completely differs.

i agree. i am getting a used transmission from New York Block exchange. it seems their prices are fair. i am going to order one from there, and they have a core charge, so beware. if you have time on your hands, they seemed very helpful to me. they called me and emailed me estimates for the transmissions. try them out NYBE.com. i think that is what the web site is. good luck.
