What part is this?

Worked on my 94 V6 3.4 all yesterday. Reclamped my whole exhaust and put on a new muffler. I replaced the 02 sensors, and now Im looking for the EGR valve. I wish I had a haynes manual, but I forked over almost $300 yesterday for parts and tools I needed. This is a n00b question . . . what part is this?

I'm hoping it is the EGR! I can't find it for the life of me. And I have different pics of it from a 95 z28. I'm kind of lost at this point. And near broke, otherwise I'd just go get a haynes manual.

Oh and another quick question. I thought my wiper fluid motor was shot, so I went and got a new one. The new one didn't fix it either. . . hmmm. Where does the power cable run to?

Im pretty sure it is. How do I clean this thing? Should I take it apart? I think its why my car is running so bad. If its just toasted, I think I'll do the EGR removal. (Im scared )

you are probably going to have to replace it, which is expenseive ($200 range), but try cleaning it first. dismantle it and use carburator cleaner spray to break up carbon deposits, make sure to clean all tubing and sensor on it as well. hope this helps. oh and be very careful cause i have heard they are easy to break.

thanks. I did all that with some carb throttle body cleaner. Seemed to help a bit. Then I just removed it and made a couple block offs. Now she is running better than ever with no EGR, fixed exhaust leaks, and new O2 sensors. I'm using about 45% less gas too. Wish I would have done this earlier!

A few years ago scientists discovered they could reduce the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) during combustion by keeping combustion temperatures below about 2500 degrees F. They did this by injecting an inert (non burning) gas into the air/fuel mixture of the engine. The inert gas helps cool the combustion event to below the threshold where NOx are formed. It turned out that exhaust gas works well as an inert gas. The EGR valve allows a metered amount of exhaust to enter the intake of the cars engine. An ECU controlled solenoid controls vacuum to the EGR. The valve is closed with no vacuum, open with vacuum. . . . (copied that, heh) basically adds dirty exhaust to your intake for emission purposes. Hopefully whoever buys my car will be able to pass emissions without it. Wisconsin is a land of dirty cars, so I doubt it will be a prob.

surfing at work just happen to have chiltons manual with me . For sure that is the EGR for a 3.4 .

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation -
the egr valve opens and closes in response to vacuum or electrical signals to admit exhause gases into the air/fuel mic to lower the peak combustion temperatures reducing the formation of NOx. the valve is closed at idle and WOT but is open between the 2 extremes.

Hope that helps

Yes that is 100% the EGR valve...

did you say you removed it and car is running fine? No SES lights flashing, I have heard removing and blocking off will cause the car to run like crap.

Gas mileage might be more related to the o2s, I was hitting 16 mpg on the highway with my bad 02s

I replaced the o2s also. Car is running great now. I made EGR block off plates and the car stopped stumbling. No code since I have a 94. Although the SES light still comes on when I'm going over 55mph for about 5 minutes. I'll have to get the bastard scanned to find out what that is for. Although everything is running great.
