Talking well spring is here...time for the engine swap...ideas

well spring is here and ive decided once again im swapping in an LT1. have bought 3 in the past but never had time to do it. Im a freshman at college and parents have for some reason decided to pressure me to do it. i have 94 3.4 A4 and will be dropping in 98 i think LT1 and 5 speed. ill have about a grand extra to play with the engine before i drop her in...and suggestions on engine work to be done to her or should i pick up set of headers for my exhuast and some other minor mods....i want to do what will give me greatest results but would rather get engine work done now so dont have to yank her later....

So what would u guys do...ohh ya swap should be started in 3 weeks when i get home....

98's were LS1's (first year) with 6 speeds or 4spd autos. Same tans options with all V8 4th gens. Hope you got the rest of the drive train, computer, accessories and cooling system to go with it.

assuming you have everything you need for the swap (complete engine w/ comp. and accesories, trans, suspension, rear end, exhaust, ect.) i'd probably install and set of headers while the engine is out. it will make things a lot easier. depending on the headers you get, you may have enough for a cam. other than that i don't really know what the best mods are for an lt1. save up for exhaust and all the other basic bolt-ons.

i have 94 3.4 A4 and will be dropping in 98 i think LT1 and 5 speed.
btw, 97 was the last year for lt1's and the v8's use 6 spd's.

Awesome man. I think you are lucky that your parents are pressuring you into swapping! I think mine would think it would be foolish...although I'm contemplating doing a swap and just not doing any appearance mods or anything this summer. Not totally sure.

I'm going to be a freshmen in college next year...and I'm almost worried about dumping too much money into an engine when I might be spending a lot more next year.

Damn I never heard of a truck engine swap...I'm sure it is possible...but much more difficult.

A quick question, in doing a swap do you also have to replace the entire tach/speedo part? Please explain...I've been wondering if you have to put in a new 150 MPH one...

Kingman - definitely do some headers while you have the engine out and basically any bolt ons that you can afford. You may even want to go into internals if you have the knowledge to gain some even more serious power.

my plans are LS1 or LT1 with heads/cam and headers before it even gets dropped in. right now i am thinking about doing an LT1-LT4 conversion. pace performance has LT4 and LS6 coversion sets that run about 2 grand.
