Water in gas tank! Help!

Alright, I wake up this morning (after failing a class due to having my homework on my computer which had no power due to an outage) and I plan on heading to school for my next class, and great, the car's screwed up outta nowhere.

The 3800 engine is pretty smooth and quiet but just starting my car gives me a rough idle, with the exhaust sounding fooked up, and a sort of draining noise in the front. When I step on the gas I get very little power and alot of vibration and rumbling.

Stepping on the gas gives me the feeling that the car will explode or something due to the strength of the vibration.

Bad vibration even in idle at 1000RPM. Gets really bad if I step on the gas even to 3000RPM! WTF?

Exhaust sounds a lot rougher, like a v8 would sound. Exhaust sends out more smoke than usual in short fast puffs.

Anyone got an idea how much this one will set me back? hehe

It could be a plethora of different things. Any SES lights?

hmmm, tuff one.

I'm shooting in the dark. First check SES lights. That would help tremendously. You might have lost 3 cylinders or something like that. Again, i'm shooting in the dark.

Check and make sure that you have spark in all cylinders.

The reason I am thinking this way is due to the puffs of smoke. The vibration might caused by the lack of spark, and if alot of cylinders went out, that could cause this.

Another thing could be the tranny.

So first check on the spark and if there are any codes. Then get back to us.

It's about half a gallon of water in my gas tank which is around 9 gallons total now. I know that for a fact. What can I do? Tried to siphon it but there seems to be a baffle or something?

i stupid idea that might work... if you unhook ur fuel lines before they get to the engine, like up front were they go in, would your fuel pump continue to run since it cant get the pressure needs when u first turn your key on??

if you want to drain the tank, you can just unsnap the fuel line at the fuel filter which is under the driver's door (roughly) and let it spill out or put a pan there or something.

then buy some fuel demoisturizer (or whatever its called) and dump in in the tank to get the rest of the water "out".

Thanks

pull the fuel line off at the fuel filter and turn the key on. I would put a pan of some sort there to catch it all. As for the ses lights. Get auto tap or visit your local AutoZone and they will pull the codes for free

I kinda wanna know how this whole water thing happened

I don't know if just turning the key with the fuel filter disconnected is going to empty the entire tank.

Being the stoned moron that I am, I needed to put some weight in the rear during the snow. Nothing but tool boxes and gas containers..took the gas containers and filled them with water to weigh them down.

When I was cleaning the car I had drained one.

The other one, I let sit on it's side to drain, and thinking all of it was outta there, i set them up all nice.

My dad usually brings home some gas in containers for me and my sister if we happen to need it. He assumed gas was in the tank (Even though I told him I used one to weigh down my car) and filled it up with gas. Being broke and needing to go to college, i took it, and dumped it in. Perhaps about 1/2 a gallon in it is water, out of 9 gallons total.

STUPID move on my part - You don't have to tell me. I have a penchant for getting into absolutely rediculous auto problems. While I may be (excuse the arrogance) a genius in many aspects of my life, I tend to be very forgetful and stupid at times.

I believe that from every mistake you learn something and you are better. Today's lesson: WATER DOES NOT BELONG IN A GAS CONTAINER. Silly and stupid but, I'll be sure to be **** about gas containers and my fuel systems for the rest of my life.

Oh and I'm taking out the fuel filter tommorow with a mechanic friend - I will let you know how this all goes, and if it's a solution if any retarded people like me ever have such a situation.

I'm hoping nothing will be damaged - no one really could give me a clear answer of what half a gallon of water can do in ten minutes of idling and cruising to an engine.
