UhOh SES Light
UhOh SES Light
Okay, This is how most story's begin but... I'm cruising down Highway 124 doing about 55 MPH and there's this area where the highway is as big as an interstate and has a steep incline, naturally the car downshifts to make it up while maintaining speed however... SES light comes on almost just before I reach the top. Car felt no different though and was still running fine so I disregaurded it as a glitch. (on my dads Z28 the SES light comes on and off everytime we pass under high tension powerlines) About 3 miles down the road I came up to a stop light, when it turned green and I gave it some gas, the car just revved there in place. Although I knew I didn't shift or anything I just checked to make sure... it was still in Overdrive. All it did was sit there and rev. I put it in park, turned it off, ignored horn blowing traffic, and restarted it, put it in gear... I'm roling again but the SES light is still on and the car starts to shift really rough as I'm going down the road. I mean the ride is smoothe except for shifting. I also noticed for the past few weeks when going 65 + down the interstate it would feel like the car wants to downshift out of 4th for no reason at all. it basicly feels like a manual tranny giving a slight clutch to rev the RPMS up to about 3,000 but instead of downshifting it just puts it back in 4th... I took it to Autozone to have the computer read, they gave me a Transmission/Traction Control Unit code but they couldn't tell me what was wrong. Well the drive home was just fine, smoothe but still had an SES light. I put two quarts of transmission fluid in there... no go. I still got an SES light. It still runs and shifts fine but the guy from Autozone says I'm probably losing my transmission. Anyone have any ideas?
If my transmission is just going to quit on me then I'm in DEEP trouble. BTW: it's an auto.

I think my traction control unit may be out or malfunctioning. I stopped at this stopsign today and the car was still running just fine, SES light still on...It rained alittled today so I was over a light puddle of water and when I gave it some gas to go, all it did was spin wheels and creep out, I didn't even give it a quarter of throttle but those wheels were spinning like crazy and I just creeped into the middle of the intersection and I'm like "god I'm glad this is a four way stop." I got off the gas cuzz it didn't seem like it was going anywere, eased back into it and bam! I got traction again. However for the entire day I've had to use the Second Gear Start just to get enough traction to roll 15 MPH....
Does anybody know if such a traction control unit exist? if this could be the problem? where it's located? how to fix it if it's bad? and does it have any corrospondence with the transmission?

Okay, on my way home from school today, out the sky blue... Bam! No more SES light!!! Car drove fine all the way home and to a concert too... The SES light is off... any ideas as to what could have caused this? I didn't do anything towards this problem besides add two quarts of Transmission Fluid to the car... like I mentioned before It read a code saying "Transmission/Traction Control Unit" or something like that. Atleast thats one less problem I have to worry about becaue the list sure was piling up...
Thanks
Thanks
what about bad gas? even though the code came up w/ the transmission, chevy's had a bad habit of the ses light coming on if the gas is not an high enough octane. might wanna try running some high grade gas for a little while, l8tr
